This story makes me want to vomit. No kidding. Imagine! The lives that were ruined. WTF is wrong with people?? I hoe those involved go to prison...Absolutely disgusting.
 
We need to trust the police...

People should be responsible for their community...

A cop's job is stressful...

If you can't do the crime don't do the time...

Hopefully within 10 years I never hear any of the above phrases again.

*sigh* Makes me ill. Are there not enough actual criminals around that they need to manufacture fake ones to make themselves look good?

This is all about a culture so damned prejudiced against black youth that they simply want to ruin their lives.
 
And people say Black individuals aren't facing any huge problems. Who knows where else this kind of stuff happens..

This is what happens when evil people rise to power. They do evil with that power.

I hope the DA and all his accomplices get jailed in the exact same prisons, with the exact same people, they put there this way.

Now, I hope that all those cases get reversed and the people freed - but - not before the DA and his buddies get put in jail in the cells next to the guys they put there illegally, and the surveillance cameras have an unexpected loss of power in that area, while the guards are on a restroom break...

A,year ago, I would have thought this an anomaly. Because the press has been on these stories regularly, I now realize we have a HUGE problem in thus country. And when cops are part of the problem, that's just plain scary.

And we're only hearing about what's reported.
Judges, a broken prison system, racism.. All of these things are a real problem we can't just throw under the rug.

The Alabama Justice Project has obtained documents that reveal a Dothan Police Department’s Internal Affairs investigation was covered up by the district attorney. A group of up to a dozen police officers on a specialized narcotics team were found to have planted drugs and weapons on young black men for years. They were supervised at the time by Lt. Steve Parrish, current Dothan Police Chief, and Sgt. Andy Hughes, current Director of Homeland Security for the State of Alabama. All of the officers reportedly were members of a Neoconfederate organization that the Southern Poverty Law Center labels “racial extremists.” The group has advocated for blacks to return to Africa, published that the civil rights movement is really a Jewish conspiracy, and that blacks have lower IQ’s . Both Parrish and Hughes held leadership positions in the group and are pictured above holding a confederate battle flag at one of the club’s secret meetings.

We recently had this same problem in a nearby suburb, where 5 or 6 coppers were busted by the feds for drug dealing and setting-up dealers & innocent citizens.

There's a backlash we often don't think of, though: now their entire caseload (around 300 cases, IIRC) is getting tossed out, with what we would expect to be legit cases as well.

So good guys go to jail.
Bad guys walk.
Taxpayers get ripped-off.

This type of behavior has far-reaching effects on the community!

Sad thing is: Those cases where the victims are already jailed will not be automatically freed; they will have to legally appeal the cases individually.

Hopefully the local jurisdictions will prioritize and expedite the process.
 
Dothan, AL has been in the national news before for the "kind" white folks that live there. Dothan ain't exactly one of those towns that the rest of the country likes to be reminded actually exists. They aren't even close to being the average town. They're like the crazy racist uncle that we're not sure didn't kill his wife that he said ran off a few years back, never to be heard from again.

I worked a flood in Dothan about 20 years ago. You think it's bad there now, you should've been there back then. Scared the hell out of me, and I'm a (armed) southern white boy - just not the kind they like. I got the hell out of there as fast as I could.

This is simply disgusting and shows how police may need enhanced oversight. Of the AG is in on this I hope he gets prison time as well. I hope they all get locked up and everything their worth gets sued out of them to help repay the lives they ruined. This is unacceptable and shouldn't be tolerated.

It is Dothan, AL don't forget. Not that racism is not institutionalized in other police departments though.

Besides the racism, a major driving factor in this incident is the drug prohibition. Without the prohibition, this could not have happened. Another social pathology manifested by the drug war.

True, but isn't it so damn easy this way?

I used to socialize with a cop who described how drugs were planted on innocent men. In his case, however, it was usually done to men who dated women "belonging to" cops. Date a cop's girlfriend, and don't be surprised if contraband ends up in your car. That was 35 years ago.

Eventually.

Fifty years after civil rights legislation, and we're still seeing examples of blatant racism.
Will we ever end the war on drugs and begin to judge according to the content of character? Yes, probably, but I'd not expect to see that happen in my lifetime. Perhaps it will in my grandchildrens' lifetime, or at least in their grandchildrens' lifetime.

NOW I think something will happen... but only because the light of day has been cast upon it.

Having said that, it'll probably still be far less than it should be. The primary people, if truly guilty, need to go to prison.
