I have had poker hands that malfunctioned with a crappy hand but the other players still took my money over my objections.

I've seen only 3 or 4 stories like this in the last couple decades, but the few that I have seen have ALWAYS been Indian casinos. And while this story does not say so, the previous stories I have read the casinos always hid behind their 'sovereign' status avoid US LE scrutiny.

for that sort of jack, a good attorney might take it on a contingency.

Time to lawyer up and get your money back. It shouldn't matter if the machine malfunctioned or not, unless the winner intentionally caused it to malfunction in her favor.

this is going to depend on the game rules for the machine etc ...
what this means is

1. is that jackpot allowed on the machine. IE is it included in the pay out table.
2. if there was an error that gave out a bogus message what were was the actual combination that was hit.

there are a lot of factors in this case that have to be examined.

it is going to cost her a good deal, but from similar court cases unless it has been proven that there was a glitch the casino has an out.
most courts do not make them pay over software glitches. this could end up costing her a ton of money she doesn't have.

Not that I really spend time in casinos, but this is why the old school mechanical slot machines are more reliable then the electronic software driven ones. If you win big they can claim that the software was acting up. Less chance of that happening with the mechanical ones.
