The U.S. Is Suing New York Over a Horrific Pattern of Cruel and Unusual Punishment

Re: The U.S. Is Suing New York Over a Horrific Pattern of Cruel and Unusual Punishmen

Good. Hope they win.

Re: The U.S. Is Suing New York Over a Horrific Pattern of Cruel and Unusual Punishmen

Riker's has had a bad reputation for years.

Re: The U.S. Is Suing New York Over a Horrific Pattern of Cruel and Unusual Punishmen

This is a good thing, even if Eric Holder is a crook.

Considering the torture issue, there is some element of hypocrisy involved.

Re: The U.S. Is Suing New York Over a Horrific Pattern of Cruel and Unusual Punishmen

This is what happens when people put liberals in charge of running a state.

Uh huh.

Re: The U.S. Is Suing New York Over a Horrific Pattern of Cruel and Unusual Punishmen

Is the DOJ bringing any such lawsuits against Arkansas or other conservative states? Wouldn't they if there were grounds?

They're not bringing any such lawsuits against any states. The DOJ is suing New York City. Bro, do you even read?

Are they bringing any such lawsuits against conservative cities? I didn't think so.

So problems at an NYC jail are somehow indicative of a problem with liberals?

What color is the sky in your world?

All I'm saying is that this sort if thing doesn't happen when conservatives run things.

Blue, perhaps if liberals payed more attention to reality, they would know what color the sky is.

Private prisons are an egregious example of liberal capitalism. Naturally such liberal innovations would be ripe with abuse.

I know. The depravity of liberalism is really shocking.

The idea that private prisons are a product of "liberal capitalism" is breathtakingly stupid.

What are they the result of, if not liberal capitalism?

Re: The U.S. Is Suing New York Over a Horrific Pattern of Cruel and Unusual Punishmen

It's really unforgivable the way that this country as a whole treats prisoners, especially minors. Our national culture is enamored of violent retribution against helpless people. It's disgusting, frankly.

I used to subscribe to REASON magazine, a libertarian site.

They have advocated for privatization of almost everything, including prisons.

How does that fit in with your charge that "liberal capitalism" is responsible for them?

I cannot remember who said it, but somebody said that one can have great insight into any given society by examining its prisons.

It supports it. Libertarianism is a form of liberalism.

I love your world view... to think the Lone Star State is a bastion of anything liberal... private prisons are a direct result of the great CON game that tries to claim EVERYTHING is better if run by the private sector. :doh

What the hell does "liberal capitalism" even mean? You can't just stick two words together and act as if it's a coherent thought.

Re: The U.S. Is Suing New York Over a Horrific Pattern of Cruel and Unusual Punishmen

Ignore Paleocon, he thinks his archaic definition of liberal is actually correct.
