Holder says he has a plan to end racial profiling. That he will be releasing this plan a few days. BO sent him down to speak at the Church MLK did. What say ye about this?

Speaking at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta — the church where the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. preached — U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said Monday that he will soon unveil long-planned Justice Department guidance aimed at ending racial profiling. The president asked Holder to set up the meetings in the wake of clashes between protesters and police in Ferguson, Missouri.

"In the coming days, I will announce updated Justice Department guidance regarding profiling by federal law enforcement. This will institute rigorous new standards — and robust safeguards — to help end racial profiling, once and for all," Holder said. "This new guidance will codify our commitment to the very highest standards of fair and effective policing." Holder also has publicly discussed the need to ease tensions between police departments and minority communities. The Justice Department has also targeted flawed police departments, initiating roughly 20 investigations of local police agencies — including Ferguson — in the past five years. A new pilot program announced weeks after the Ferguson shooting will study racial bias in American cities and recommend ways to reduce the problem.....snip~

Yep, on his way out the door is the perfect time to plan to make changes. More political posturing from the Obama administration.

Looks like he wants to still earn a paycheck.

Holder also told the crowd that the meetings he's convening around the country are just the beginning and that he wants to start a frank dialogue and then translate that into concrete action and results.

Last year, as part of the Justice Department's "Smart on Crime" initiative, he instructed federal prosecutors to stop charging many nonviolent drug defendants with offenses that carry mandatory minimum sentences — punishments that he said were contributing to overcrowded prisons. The Justice Department has also broadened the criteria for inmates seeking clemency in hopes of encouraging potentially thousands more inmates to apply, and Holder backed changes in federal sentencing guideline ranges that could result in tens of thousands of drug prisoners becoming eligible for early release.....snip~

Holder says, What we just saw there was concern and involvement?????

Trailblazing lawyer Vanita Gupta is Obama’s likely pick to run the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division

In the decade since, Gupta has gone on to become one of the best-known civil rights attorneys in the country — leading the charge on prison reform, immigration law, police overreach and other issues.

Now the 39-year-old lawyer, praised as a trailblazer on civil rights issues, is set to play a major role in how the Justice Department proceeds in its ongoing federal investigation into the events surrounding the shooting of an unnamed black teenager in Ferguson, Mo., last August. Last month, Attorney General Eric Holder named Gupta as the acting head of the Civil Rights Division at the Justice Department, with the expectation that she will soon be nominated for the job permanently. The job puts her at the center of other politically sensitive issues, including the department’s lawsuits against Texas and North Carolina for controversial voter ID laws that Justice officials contend are in violation of the Voting Rights Act.

Gupta is already well acquainted with the issues in Ferguson. Before joining the Obama administration, she was the deputy legal director at the American Civil Liberties Union, where she spearheaded the group’s efforts on Ferguson. She was a co-author of a study, launched months earlier, looking into the militarization of local police departments — an issue that garnered new attention after violent protests erupted between the Ferguson Police Department and people angry over the death of Brown.....snip~

Better late than never, I guess.

Attorney General Eric Holder Plans ‘Institute of Justice’ to Address Protest Concerns.....

Holder’s current plans include creating an “institute of justice” that would help continue the dialogue he hopes to undertake over the coming weeks. Holder has been the administration’s point-person on Ferguson response since he visited the troubled city in August following the shooting of an unarmed black teenager, Michael Brown.

Holder, who will leave office as soon as his replacement is confirmed, said he believes Ferguson could be a seminal moment for the national conversation about race......snip~

Says he needs an Institute to hold a National Conversation on Race. What say ye?

Profiling has a valid place in law enforcement... ending it completely is retarded.

Heya Bodhi. :2wave: Do you think he needs an Institute to hold talks on race?

Hey, I am having trouble with that sentence... do you mean set up an institute to talk about race issues?

If so, then that is not a bad idea... what IS a bad idea is mandating universal change without discussion.

Profiling works. If it didn't, we wouldn't do it.

I profile when I hire. Cops profile all the time.

Calling Eric Holder and Barack Obama retarded is racial profiling.

How about being severely challenged when it comes to the Constitution, law enforcement, border enforcement and national security ?

And cops will always profile... as they should. Now, if you could just the ****ing TSA to leave me and my daughters alone when we travel and frisk more Middle Eastern men I would be elated.

I assume that is a joke...

agreed....

With Obama and Eric Holder, everything is about race and poilitics.

Remember when the Obama White House claimed that the U.S. Navy SEAL's were to white ?

No, but I do agree that they are not helping race issues...

Yeah.....with him setting up an Institute. I figure it would be another way to scam more money from the people.
