Rape by fraud? N.J. lawmaker introduces bill to make it a crime | NJ.com

Imagine this: A man woos a woman to bed with tales of his riches, fast cars and a vacation home in Monaco. But he actually lives in his mother’s basement.

Or this: A seemingly wealthy widow convinces a younger man to sleep with her on the notion that they may marry and he’ll inherit her money. In reality, she’s broke.

In both cases, someone lied about his or her status in order to have sex with someone else. Under a bill recently proposed by a south Jersey lawmaker, such actions would not only be considered dishonest. They could prompt charges of rape.

Apparently this legislation was spurred by an incident where some guy duped some woman out of $5k. I guess the fraud wasn't enough of a charge so now they want to be able to add rape to the list of indictable offenses.

OK. I understand how folks might want this kind of law on the books. Everybody enjoys a little revenge when they get screwed over. But is this really the way to go? I mean, seriously, has no woman ever used her "feminine wiles" to extract some bonus from a guy? What happens when "I can cook too!" turns out to be a lie?

I swear, with this and some of those other college deals about "consent" I think I might switch from accounting to law.

Well we love laws in America, and no place loves them more than New Jersey.

What about California, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Hampshire, or New York?

Not on the same level as New Jersey and Chicago. Though all of our governments, federal and state, love laws. It gives them legitimacy and methods through which they can exercise force against the People.

One of the first times I ever seen Ophra (and I tried to make it my last) I was with a bunch of nurses. I cant remember exactly how the situation came up I had to watch TV with them but anyway...Ophra had this guy on that would dress up real nice, drove a nice car, and conviened women he was rich, ride the lie, and them, as long as he could, then split. Bascially the show and the women I was with were all abou the how evil the guy was. I could not even see that side of it, when I brought up how evil the b****** were for sleeping with him just because they thought he was rich the women looked at me like I had a third eye. Seriously the women had to have been at least as low life as the guy.

If women choose to be gold digging bitches and have sex with someone because they think that person is rich then it is on them. Rape is a forced act not a fraudulent act.Because by these people logic proposing this law if a women wears hair extensions, push up bras or similar things to make her breasts look bigger, make up and any other **** make herself attractive when she really wasn't then she has committed rape fraud.

Do you mean Oprah?

All the ones that aren't Oregon, to the best of my knowledge.

Apparently, the law were put in place because the legislature was scared people would blow themselves up. I'm sorry, but really? I actually made a joke to that affect driving away when I found out about it a few months ago, but it turns out that is actually the reason.

It's just one of the consequences of being a dishonest gold digger.

If a woman is just after your money and is willing to have sex to get it then she should make it perfectly clear that she's a prostitute and negotiate payment before sex.

New Jersey has some strange ideas.
