Hardly news anymore in this country...:( The judiciary is as corrupt as the other branches. Torture Is Us.

People protect their own. Isn't really surprising.

The only difference between now and 40 years ago is that now the information age makes these incidents more public.

Punks tramps that mouth off to cops should keep one thing in mind he or she may be five minutes removed from a a rape or a child beating so they just might not be in the mood to hear any slop from anyone.

The DOJ made the determination, so you know the so-called victim here is creatively editting events. Notice there's mention of him going for the gun of one of the officers.

If I were a cop beating the **** out of someone, I'd say the same thing too!

Something is fishy here because the city settled in a lawsuit for over 3/4 of a million dollars. They would't have done that if there wasn't something behind the allegations of police misconduct. However, police misconduct isn't the reason for the DOJ investigation. They looked into civil rights violations and, apparently, found none. The claim that racial motivation was why the victim was beaten up is unfounded.

Yep. Good post. Really isn't that complex. Does appear that a number of the responders on this thread didn't bother to even follow the <link>.

He received a 795K settlement... doesn't that mean no judge was involved? You cannot even find the word judge in the article.

Misleading OP title, of course the officers wont be fired. Its his word against their Blue Code of Silence.

Yeah, but when the feds look into it and see the same thing as the locals, chances are far better the crook is lying, not the cops.

****... Where do I sign up for a beating for rockstar pay? For 800k, you can beat me within one inch of my life.

The guy probably already blew through his 3/4 million settlement...now he's looking for more.

Government vs. crooks....potato/potato. That doesn't sound as good as it does when you enunciate it correctly; but the point stands.

Police should be held to a very high standard. They are empowered to use violence to protect our society, and should be extremely limited in when they can do that. Police should be LESS inclined to use violence than an untrained citizen, not more.

$750,000! And he got hit with a flashlight and a radio. And he's still whining. What is the point in giving the loons anything? Nothing will solve their endless whining and crying. Another 250k and this clown would be a millionaire victim and all the loons would be whining and feeling sorry for him. That guy is just plain disgusting.

They should be held to a high standard but not an impossible one. Despite what you see some say around here, they're still human.

The payoff makes it ok?

Yes, they're still human. Totally agree that they shouldn't be held to impossible standards. But... they're still human, and as such are not immune from straying from the good side, and many have, and we need to remember that as well when we are tempted to give them an automatic pass.

(Not saying you do this specifically, but many people do, and the point is intended to be generic)

Keeping in mind that it's impossible to make it not have happened, the payoff would sure make me feel better, what about you?

You are right, however idealistic you and I might be. My grandfather was a Chicago cop during the days of Al Capone, so I would like to think that cops are good guys for the most part.

Unfortunately, Philip Zimbardo documented some unpleasant facts about human behavior as he conducted the Stanford Prison Experiment back in the 70's. He entitled his book The Lucifer Effect, after the dark behavior he observed. Most humans will cross the line very quickly when given a baton and placed into the role of cop.
