I was just chillin'; browsing the sex offender registry in my local area sipping on some iced tea, and I came across this. False imprisonment of a minor.

A crime? Most certainly. Sexual? How so?

That was the official charge...not a description of exactly what was going on.....

Yeah, I've seen those registries. The information that they present is not always complete.

How does it work? I am not familiar with it. Is the S.O.R. not based on the charges? If it is based on the situation at hand who decides if it is S.O.R. worthy or not? The judge? Is there a committee or something who decides what situations warrant registration?

I spoose an example would be, does this mean that every person charged with "false imprisonment of a minor" is registered as a sex offender, or does it not work like that?

The criteria to get placed on the SOR is merely being CONVICTED of a sex offense. No sor is going to give any detailed descriptions...they merely state the charge he/she was convicted of.

I've read a few SOR's and I always find the information provided VERY incomplete. It's often hard to determine what actually happened.

Very hard and that can be a problem...if a person is on SOR because they had sex with a consenting minor...because there is no explanation they are lumped in with true Pedophiles and as far as his neighbors are concerned until they know better he is just as much a pariah as a true pedophile

Yup. There is little documented differentiation. I would find it VERY different having to deal with a 20 year old who had sex with his 15 year old girlfriend as opposed to a 42 year old who molested 12 children under the age of 10. Though I understand the legal issues around having sex, even "consensual" sex with a minor, the two examples I gave paint pictures of two very different individuals.

Absolutely...convicts find it very different...the 20 yr old could survive in gen pop...the 42 yr old would be in protective custody..
The correct picture you painted is one individual that is no threat to society and another who is very much a threat..

This might make your skin crawl a little bit if you live in that area...(you might have to zoom out a little bit)
