Re: Battered Mother Accused in Child's Death

I don't care if she was battered... although there's no evidence of it in the OP. Any mother who stands by while her 3-year-old toddler is being beaten to death because she's "afraid" she'll be hurt trying to protect him deserves to be charged with a crime. I'm not willing to blame society because there was no place she could go. The only way I'd let her off the hook is if she was handcuffed to a steel pipe while she screamed for help. Otherwise, she had a choice. The baby didn't.

I'm extremely sympathetic to the blight of battered women... up to and until they allow their children to be beaten to death.

They can only do their jobs when abuse is reported to them. The mother did not report the abuse. According to her other children, the toddler was beaten often and the mother did nothing to stop it. How on earth can CPS be responsible for stopping something that they had no way to know was happening?
