A new Dawn for a Cuba

I, for one, can't wait to go!

Direct international round-trip flights from my city to Havana are up & running now for a bit over $500. If the in-country costs are as cheap as portrayed, this sounds like an absolutely great vacation for a reasonable costs!

I was in a bar recently, and of all places it was a couple blocks down from President Obama's old house; the subject of Cuba came up, and of maybe 40 people there at least 1/2 claimed they seriously want to go and will. By 'serious', we're talking "likely to go within the next several years". This after the announcement of the resumption of commercial flights, but before they became reality. Now granted this was a bar, and everyone but me was drinking; the neighborhood was academic (U of C crowd), diverse, and upscale - so they likely were prime demographics for something like this. But still, I was taken back by how many in the crowd wanted to go and seemed serious about it.

So there's a real buzz going-on in my neck of the woods.
