And why would Egypt not open up the borders? Because of a peace treaty between Israel and Egypt

and because of the history between the old guard in the Muslim brotherhood and Hamas. And also all goods bound to Gaza go through Kerem Shalom border crossing, which is operated by Israel.

If you were Egypt, would you want to answer to Israel for allowing military hardware to flow into Gaza so that it could be used against Jewish civilians?
