Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon said Tuesday that Israel does not currently have enough evidence to detain or prosecute the suspects in the Duma arson murders.
Ya'alon told Army Radio that the July firebomb attack that killed three members of the Dawabsheh is "clearly a Jewish attack that I am ashamed of" and that the defense establishment knows the members of group behind the attack. However, Ya'alon repeated that there is "not enough evidence against them."

On Monday, the deputy attorney general for criminal law told a Knesset committee that "extraordinary measures" have been used in questioning the suspects currently in custody.

The High Court of Justice on Sunday authorized the Shin Bet security service to continue preventing three suspects in a fatal arson attack in the West Bank this summer from meeting with their lawyers

Pretty outrageous.... :( The explanation given is essentially "we know who did it, we know they did it, but we cant charge them". If you know they did it, and you know who they are, how can you possibly not have enough evidence!? This is starting to sound like this is gonna be another crime done by extremist settlers against Palestinians that will go unpunished. :(

Looks like the terrorists got away with it. Not surprising that the Isrealis would shield their own.

Deliberately misleading title by Ha'aretz per usual, Ya'alon said that there currently is not enough evidence to trial them. Investigation is still ongoing, and the suspects remain in custody until things develop, they will eventually be brought to justice.

This is nothing but propaganda to suggest that Israel doesn't trial Jewish extremists who commit terrorist attacks against Palestinians in the very rare cases when those take place, it's irrefutable that it does, it is after all a fully functioning democracy. Both the government and the opposition have called it out as an act of terrorism at the time and Israel has an history of bringing Jewish extremists to justice to speak for its justice system and its democratic character.

Terrorism by extremist Jewish groups is a threat to national security, Israeli LEO's know this and will prosecute them if they can, as demonstrated just three very short paragraphs into the story:

On Monday, the deputy attorney general for criminal law told a Knesset committee that "extraordinary measures" have been used in questioning the suspects currently in custody.

The High Court of Justice on Sunday authorized the Shin Bet security service to continue preventing three suspects in a fatal arson attack in the West Bank this summer from meeting with their lawyers

I would be surprised if the PA or Hamas ever responded to Palestinian terrorist attacks against Jews to even a fraction of this extent, if at all.

First of all, they are under administrative detention for more than two weeks, you are not that outrage when the suspects are Palestinian terrorists.

It is said that the Shin Bet knows who did it but the evidence is not enough to persecute. The local media raised lots of speculations from informants which the Shin Bet dont want to expose to evidence of someone hearing that someone else did it - not something you can use in court.

Israel is holding Israeli citizens under detention and forbids them from access to lawyers, so hearing you cirtisize Israel on this is really puzzling

The terrorists are under adninistrative detention, they didnt get away with it just yet

Complete non sequitur.

I don't think that concluding we must defund a renegade state for its renegade actions is a non sequitur but I'm moderate that way.

I'm going to guess you didn't read the article, but rather, seeing the word "Israeli" in the thread title, you decided to throw your feces into the discussion instead.

You are a horrible guesser. I strongly recommend you don't take up poker. Stick to feces....

And yet by page two you've done nothing to demonstrate that you have a single inkling that you read past the word "Israeli" in the thread title. As a matter of fact, seeing as this is the "Israel/Palestine" subforum, there's very little to suggest you even got that far.

On another note, I really, really hope the caption for that article is in error. What kind of brain injury would you have to sustain in order to support murdering a family by fire?

2 Israelis indicted after arson kills Palestinian toddler, parents - CNN.com

An Israeli court indicted two Israelis on Sunday in connection with a deadly arson attack on a Palestinian family last year, the state attorney said, according to Israeli radio.

The two Israelis are charged with being part of a terror organization.

"It's a war crime and a humanitarian crime at the same time," Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said shortly after attack.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the crime was "reprehensible and horrific."

I have not personally come across any such condemnation by Abbas of the continued stabbings by Palestinians against Israeli citizens. I have, however, found plenty of condemnations by Abbas against Israel for shooting the terrorists who carry out those stabbings.

Fortunately, Israel's government holds itself to higher standards.

And the fact that Abbas is considered "moderate" and the current Israeli government is considered "right wing nutjobs" tells you even more about each faction's standards

Do you think it's time to admit you jumped the gun?

How did he jump the gun? His assertion that "This is starting to sound like this is gonna be another crime done by extremist settlers against Palestinians that will go unpunished." my emphasis, was sound.
