Hundreds of Israeli Jews and Arabs rally for peace

That shouldn't come as surprising. The average Israeli and Palestinian would like nothing more than to live in peace. Sadly, neither has leaders that are seriously commited to a peaceful resolution anytime soon. Clearly there is no one in the Palestinian Leadership currently who cares enough about their people to make a genuine effort to try and resolve the conflict without ridiculous pre conditions that are never going to happen.

Netanyahu is not much better. Meanwhile, he continues to increase settlement expansions into disputed territory that will only continue to make the eventual drawing of a two-state map particularly problematic if they ever do get their act together.

My limited experience in Israel suggests that a very large segment of the Palestinian population just wants to live in peace and considers the violent elements to be bad apples.

There are Israeli Jews who also just want peace, Jews who think God gave them all of the Holy Land, and Jews who believe that you really can't be surprised at the anger when they've been occupying the West Bank and East Jerusalem since 1967. As in any country, there is a wide diversity of opinion.
