NKorea closer to being able to hit America...

'Higher-level' nuke test explosion sets region on edge...

With each test, they get closer.

And what does the putz from DC do? Tells them this is unacceptable.........and NK laughs at us.

The real problems are that it is a precedent for US failing to stand up for it's stated existential interests and thus will make countries like Saudi Arabia, the Philippines or Venezuela think it might be a good idea.

And your suggestion is?
Good question. We cannot go back in time and keep them from getting them like we should have. Maybe learn a lesson is a good suggestion? Maybe not hand the nuke keys over to another Axis of Evil driver, Iran, assisting them with their nuke development just like another Clinton did with NK? That might be prudent, eh?

Maybe the laughed at Star Wars defense, SDI and its latest iteration, the Missile Defense Agency, will ultimately keep us and our allies [i.e., Israel ] somewhat safe.

If North Korea ever makes the mistake of attacking the USA it will be put out of business.

Wait and see.

The main point is we have no reasonable answer to this problem now. North Korea's nuclear ambitions did not start and stop with any one President. We have had opportunity here and there to do something, but in the end we cannot say any one President could have stopped them.

This isolated and impoverished nation continues to do as they please and advance their ambitions. Sanctions are ineffective and rhetoric from any other nation's leader is laughable. Similar story with anything coming from that useless organization we call the UN.

So, despite the opportunity taken by the OP to inject today's thread of "Obama did this or that" the reality is about all we have left is two fold. One, continue to watch the nation slowly implode in a haze of social and economic stupidity. Two, defend ourselves. That is about it. Well, there is always the third madness level option. Invasion.

However, the OP has neither the interest or aptitude to have that conversation. All we are doing here is Obama bashing, and it is rather worthless.

Interesting phrasing on NK nuke ambitions. I think we can easo;u credit Bill Clinton's administration with not only doing little to stop the NK's nuke program, but also assisting them with economic aid, fuel oil and building two nuclear facilities. This fave NK time to develop their nukes without a strict and timely inspection regime to monitor/retard progress on the development of nuke capabilities.

At least a president might try to be smart enough to understand that we don't assist our enemies allowing them capabilities even faster than if we did nothing at all... but all that was lost on Obama and Iran, right? Does anybody really think that Iran will stick to our agreements, that they will not be another rogue threat just like NK in the coming years?

So the OP was right to criticize Obama. As to the three options, while it is perhaps inevitable that NK will collapse, as did the Soviet Union, of its own unsustainability, yes we should be investing hardily in developing ABM defenses. In the absence of a truly reliable system, there are other options besides the costly one, in both blood and treasure, of invasion. Under consideration should be other military and covert operations to sabotage NK missiles that may ultimately genuinely threaten us.

And what does the putz from DC do?

What would you do?

Nevermind. I know you haven't a clue about what would actually stop their program. That's why all you can do is whine about Obama.

What would you have him do? Attack them for no particular reason? They have nukes too. Merely developing a nuclear weapons capability is not an act of war.
No disrespect intended, but its not your country that has the nuclear gun getting ready to be pointed at someone's head, right? NZ is not a particular target whereas the US of A generally is.

Its rather more like the First World War when Russia started mobilizing... that was a signal to Germany. Testing your nukes and getting them to the point where they can most certainly hit American cities on the mainland? That, to me, is the go signal, the "its on now, buddy" sign that we need to take them, the NK threat, out. No US president has to wait until we have a flattened and glowing LA, Portland or Seattle... he or she has a duty to protect the American people from such genuine threats.

To hell with world opinion on the matter. If the world doesn't want us doing that, they should now be about doing something to stop NK before they can ever get to that stage.

Such laughable historical pig-ignorance and illiteracy. It wasn't Clinton who screwed up and then, magically, the NKs got nukes.

What IS it with the rabid RW and historical revisionism? It's wholly Stalinistic.

Listen, I have explained to you before I am not interested trading barbed comments with you, and not just because yours are just too stupid, which they most certainly are, I am here to debate intelligent people attempting to get to answers. So...just be gone with your insolent and recognizably uninformed commentary... you have nothing to actually debate, only lame barbed comments without substance, expertise or rational thought.

Am not interested in such trite and juvenile antics up here where its supposed to be about debate.

What makes you think the NK has it's missiles pointed at the US? Far more likely to be aimed at SK.
No, you do not have the right to launch an attack on the chance of NK attacking you.

There is no way in hell you are capable of understanding DPRK and what is going on.

As usual you boil everything down to.

"Obama r bad durrr".

How many countries has that stopped?

He is bad.....he's the worst President in our history!

It's pretty simple really and letting that fat **** in NK bully us, or anyone else, is nuts!

DPRK is a totalitarian cess pool of human rights violations!

Da worst eba?

Jesus you don't realize how childish you sound.

DPRK is a totalitarian cess pool of human rights violations!

That's pretty rich for someone who constantly bitches and complains about due process when it comes to criminals, and seemed just giddy about Duterte style extra judicial killing squads.

Nope, but he is odds on the best president you've ever had.

Ya, fancy that...

Well, logic tells us that SK is right next door to the south of NK, right? Why would they need to keep continuing to increase missile range to past what is necessary to hit all SK?

Think they may be trying to save humanity and be hitting an asteroid or meteor out in space, do ya? Fortunately you are not commander in chief here, unfortunately we have another very liberal incompetent who is.

Looking back, I don't think New Zealand waited until Japan launched an invasion of NZ before striking, fighting with Japan during WW2 did it?

1: The North Koreans are absolutely paranoic wrt the Japanese so range is a good thing from their POV.

2: We declared war on Japan in response to their declaration of war on Great Britain.

He aha te mea nui? He tangata, he tangata, he tangata!

Japan is pretty far away from mainland USA. If the range of NK missiles gets anywhere close to the point that they can hit Seattle, Portland or LA, its trigger pulling time from this end. I will vote for the president that has no problem with making that decision.

Screw all the folks that would have us wait until one or more of our major cities is flattened into smoking/glowing rubble...

2. So you hit them before they hit you... not much difference when it comes right down to it.

Oooga booga boo!!!, ha ha ha, scared you... and it better scare the North Koreans as well.

Didn't think so.

The simple truth is that the only thing that would stop them is an all-out invasion followed by nation building, which (1) we've already proven ourselves incapable of, (2) would never work as long as China is pissed at THAAD, since China would throw in their own troops once again and we would have to fight to another cease-fire, then run away. Because we really cannot afford a hot war with China, not even to stop NK from getting nukes.

Here's the thing you people need to keep in mind: Kim Jong Un, like all Kims before him, is mad but north by northwest. He's not actually going to nuke the U.S., because we would retaliate in like kind. That would kill him. He wants to not be killed because he wants to stay in power.
