The stunning human-rights abuses of a U.S. ally

Hey, whatever it takes to make money - US motto

covered up?

I'm pretty sure every American user here knows about that.

It's why we're #1

Welcome to humanity.

Would you rather we take the prize or China?

I have doubts as to how long a pro-war capitalist nation without culture can last (probably long past our lifetimes though).

Who says we don't have culture?

I think it's clear why the united states will not touch Saudi Arabia.

US foreign policy unfortunately has been to cover up human rights abuses, and deny historical truth such as genocides and state repression, for political or economic gain.

The US govt denies the Armenian Genocide, a position of Turkey's government, and before Saddam invaded Kuwait it worked to white wash Saddam's genocide of the Kurds and biological weapon attacks on the Iranians. Also Pinochet and a long list of other dictators also got off by being 'our guy'.

So the US govt silent on Saudi Arabian war crimes and human rights abuses, shouldn't be surprising.

The answer: Until there is no more oil in S.A.

More realistically the answer is till the region is no longer a tinderbox. It would be crazy for the US to destabilize a traditionally run society opposed to our other regional allies declared enemies.

More accurately until they run out of petrol dollars to buy US arms and planes. Till then US can enjoy the milk sheikh.

But what US interests would there be to keep on denying human rights abuses in SA after the above mentioned exchange is gone?

Invade the country for 9/11 terrorism carried out by them.

And if human right abuses seize at that time, by what grounds would the invasion follow?

Human Rights will be irrelevant after the oil is exhausted. You attacked my country.

But it may be after a century from 9/11. Who would care then? Some other excuse should be found?

The camels could replace the oil for export.

Meh, no invasion after all! Just throw a few camels at USA after the oil is gone!

Hopefully the price of camels would not be enough to cover up human right abuses in SA also though.
