Schwarzenegger, an immigrant himself, says the estimated $4 billion to $5 billion the state spends on illegal immigrants annually is a "small percentage" of the deficit.

I say Im fine with that as long as the federal government does not tax me and my state to fund it. Let CA spend its self into the grave.

For some reason I think you,me, others and our states will fund it if California asks for a bailout. I think it is pretty **** that anyone looks at 4-5 billion like its chump change it is pretty ****ty to be spending any money on people who have no legal right to be in the US.

State's deficit is projected to be 22 gigabucks this year.

That means the mexicans in the state are responsible for 5/22 = 23% of the deficit, or nearly a quarter.

I guess the steroids either melted the Governator's brain, or it wasn't very good to begin with, or he's expecting that no one will notice because of the wonderful public schools California has.

What part of "illegal" does Arnold Kennedy not understand, anyway?

I live in CA.. And the only thing I can say about the governor is he wants re election and since Ca is mostly Mexican now he knows which side his bread is buttered on. It wont be long before Calif economy is in complete shambles the same way the Mexican economy is now. As a matter of fact I think they should just turn California over to the Mexicans let them manage it and meanwhile all the American's living here can just move out to neighboring states which by the way is already happening. Arnie lives in his big mansion so dont worry he will be okay and free from any gangland drive bys the rest of us have had to put up with.

I used to live in California, you nailed exactly why he and most of the state government are lying through their asses about the costs of illegals there. There is also the fact that the state would lose several Congressional seats if the illegals left. A more reasonable estimate is their cost run about 5 times higher than the tripe Arnold is claiming.

Then there are the legal immigrants. A state study on welfare recipients a few years ago stated that 48% of the women receiving welfare were foreign born. Males don't count for much any more in welfare stats since Clinton's 'Welfare Reforms' in the early 90's; they merely expanded the prisons to handle them.

I know you are right. He basically pulled a John Kerry because he wanted those who harbored illegals and the scum who hired illegals to vote for him.


Arnold Talks Tough on Illegal Immigration

SAN FRANCISCO—Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said the nation’s policy on preventing illegal immigration is too lax, telling a group of newspaper publishers the United States needs to “close the borders.”

“Close the borders in California and all across Mexico and in the United States,” Schwarzenegger said Tuesday at the annual meeting of the Newspaper Association of America. “Because I think it is just unfair to have all those people coming across, have the borders open the way it is, and have this kind of lax situation.”

The Republican governor also suggested exploring several policy proposals aimed at addressing the immigration crisis, including President Bush’s proposed guest worker program and legislation sponsored by Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., to pave the way for undocumented workers already living in the United States to attain legal status.

During the recall election, Schwarzenegger was repeatedly asked to explain why he had voted for Proposition 187, a 1994 ballot measure to deny many basic services to illegal immigrants. And shortly after entering office, he derailed a law passed and signed by former Democratic Gov. Gray Davis that would have allowed illegal immigrants to apply for drivers licenses.

According to Fox news 30% of all welfare recipiants in the US reside in CA.

And call me a nut but consider this. Mexico and many of the central american countries that these illegal immigrants are comming from are highly corrupt, far more then the US. I dont think its a far stretch of the imagination to say that it is possible once these people have a majority vote that things could get worse in the US. They just have a different outlook on things then your typical US citizen when it comes to government and what it can do for you.
