Re: E-Verify

Another thread hijacking attempt by our resident employers of illegals activist. Mandatory e-verification basically puts the employers of illegals out of the hiring of illegals business. The last thing employers of illegals want is to have to verify the legality of employees. With e-verify the employers of illegals would no longer be able to say that they didn't know the Mexican's, with the sombrero who couldn't speak English, documents were fake.

Re: E-Verify

One great thing about what is happening in Arizona is other states are keenly taking note of that successful strategy others had derided. But to many who have lead the clammering the past several years, clamping down on the employment end is key to drying up illegal entries and will in fact result in many leaving the USA on their own:

Arizona slams door on illegal immigrants - Los Angeles Times

snip from above link:

"What I love about what Arizona is doing is we don't have to rely on the federal government," said state Rep. Russell Pearce, a Mesa Republican who has authored most of the toughest measures. "It has truly woken up the rest of America that states can fix that problem." The campaign has had an effect: Illegal immigrants complain it's impossible to find good work and are leaving the state."

What Rep Pearce meant to say that since the fed gov is run by and for special interest ruling elites and is totally dysfunctional, at least regarding illegal immigration, it's basically going to be up to the states to enforce immigration laws, if any enforcement is going to be done at all. Currently the SAVE Act, authored by Heath Schuler, which is similar to Arizona's tough on the employers of illegals law, is being bottled up in the House by the House Democrats. To date a petition to bring the SAVE Act out on the floor for a vote has been signed by 178 House Repubicans and a whopping 10 Democrats.

One could say that the majority of Republican politicians are fighting illegal immigration while a majority of Democratic politicians are fighting the Republican politicians fighting illegal immigration. The Democratic rank and file doesn't seem to give a rat's ass, though, what the Democratic politicians do about illegal immigration.
