We invited them.

People come here for opportunity precisely because it is the land of frickin' opportunity. Historically every time we get a bunch of immigrants who come here and work hard, we get the same old arguments about them "stealing jobs" from "real Americans."

Most notably, it happened with the Chinese in the mid 19th Century. The same doomsayers were claiming that the "chinks" would be the downfall of America. Instead they put us on the industrial map with the trans-continental railroad.

When people come here looking for opportunity, good things happen. The real threat is people who are born here looking for entitlement.

How about the entitlements of people who drop anchor babies looking for social welfare based on paltry family income?

How about the entitlements of people who outbreed the general population (vying for numerical, political control) levying greater unapportioned tax burdens on those whose efforts to afford amenities, including higher education, option smaller families?
Maybe the indigenous population should just say screw it, breed like vermin, live in squalor, and shove their children onto the world at large.

Very, very touching.

Those words apply, however, only to those who choose to come to this country LEGALLY. Our immigration policies have changed over the years but under our current immigration rules we still have an immigration system set up to allow legal applicants to become citizens. For those that don't qualify under our legal immigration system, THAT'S JUST TOO BAD! Go to another country, stay home, but don't break into THIS country. The US immigration system SHOULD be set up on the basis of what is good for the US, not what immigrants want.

No offense, but your ancestors didn't come here legally. They just planted their flag, claimed the land, then began several centuries of genocide and land theft.

Immigrants are the best thing that happend to the US. A pool of cheap labor. They're great for the small business American. If only anti-immigration Americans would only act to profit from them, instead of whining.

I agree, we need to find away to profit from this labor with guest worker programs to tax the labor. A real political solution that will let us enforce anything outside of the guest worker program. I think you could manage it this way because you would be giving Mexico an alternative versus: THIS IS THE LAW, GET OUT OF MY COUNTRY. That may of worked 100 years ago, but to enable the nation of Mexico for so long and then try to enforce such a law without some kind of compromise seems like a losing proposition.

It does not mean it applies to how we should do things today.
What our ancestors did to the Indians makes me sick.

I am also surprised you did not mention the Mexicans we killed for the very land that they are entering through.

We are not talking about Immigrants.
We are talking about ILLEGAL Immigrants.

Immigrants are great.

Illegal Alien Criminals number enough to make their own country just by themselves and come here by the millions with greater population per year than some of our States.

And this is just some of the damage it does:

It puts thousands of Americans out of work or forces them to work for non American wages.
It over inflates our housing market when they move in groups of several thousand to natural disaster sites.
We lose "correct me if this is wrong" 20 Billion a year through Western Union alone?
We spent how many more Billion per year providing services for people that do not contribute?
They are not tested for Disease.
They do not even take the simple tests we give legal immigrants to ensure they know a little bit about America.
There is no reason for them to want to learn our language.
They often find themselves in skilled construction jobs without any training and provide extremely low quality work.
They do not pull local and city licenses and are left completely unchecked.
We have no idea where they come from or where they go or how to find them, so their customers have no recourse or warranty.
The average education level goes down for our country.
The average poverty level goes down for our country.
They drive without insurance and when wrecks do occur we have no way to seek compensation and are left with higher insurance or simply holding the bill.

Im a retail sales manager and I cant stand dealing with illegal immigrants because its nearly impossible to communicate with them. Granted they tend to pay always in cash which saves me money on my P&L but its the principal of the thing.
