Rapists, drug dealers, and toddlers...

Well she certainly proved that for all that education she didn't learn a damn thing. The internet is everywhere and the internet is forever. How can a kid growing up these days not understand that? she pretty much just destroyed her college chances and any future job prospects.

I doubt anyone would hold it against her, as long as she could pass eVerify I would hire her.

If she were posting actual criminal stuff on social media that would be a different story. I'm a hardliner on illegal immigration, I also dot believe it is justice to prosectute/deport this person since she has not done anything illegal herself

She was a toddler when she was brought to this country illegally.
You did call her a criminal.

Your script, not mine.

Bull**** and you know it. I said her parents were thieves and she became one. You chose to ignore that in favor of your own script.

In other words, your argument is based purely on emotion and with no factual basis

It is a correct opinion that building a wall between two countries is a symbol of hate, but...
It is a fact that tunnels exist under the border between Mexico and the US.
It is a fact that illegals and drug smugglers use these tunnels.
It is a fact that building a wall will cost billions of dollars that could be used instead to maintain highways and bridges.

Correct, as it should be.

And there are many more like her, some of whom are still hiding.

If anything this should be one of those "don't do this stuff unless you have a backbone" stories.

Example. don't post your personal information on the net and personal details about your life, because there are people who can and will be absolute dicks to you.

No, it's not.

Yes, and when we catch these criminals we close down the tunnels and punish the offenders.

It is a fact that building a wall will cost billions of dollars that could be used instead to maintain highways and bridges.

Yup, we spend money on crime prevention. Fact of life.

I thought it was her parents who were criminals?

Yup, AGAIN, and now she has become one as well. She's joined the gang. She knows she's breaking the law, she knows she's here illegally and she's of the age where she's criminally liable for her actions.

No it's a symbol of an international border.

Highways and bridges are a false argument. Bylaw those are funded out of the Federal highway trust fund which is funded by the excise taxes on diesel fuel and gasoline, The wall will be funded out of the federal government's general fund budgeted for Homeland security.

OK so some smugglers will build tunnels, which will be considerably more costly than just walking across. Every defensive measure that can be envisioned by a human being can be breached by another human being that doesn't mean should not be attempted.

Yup, we spend money on crime prevention. Fact of life.

We spend money on crime prevention that only wastes money and does nothing to prevent crime, fact of life.
We persist in spending money on government programs that don't work for a variety of reasons, fact of life.
You're advocating yet another crime prevention project that will only waste money and not prevent crime, fact of life.

The young lady in the OP is not a criminal, yet another fact of life, nor are the thousands of young people in the same situation.

No it's a symbol of an international border.

What other international borders have walls built along their length?

That money all goes into the "general fund" and is spent according to the will of Congress. It doesn't matter where the tax money comes from.

So, have you built a wall around your house yet, maybe one that costs more than the house, just to prevent illegal entry? Burglary does present a problem, you know, and even if the wall can be breached, that doesn't mean you shouldn't attempt it.

So, at what age should she have abandoned her family and gone back to Mexico? Age 4, maybe, before she started "stealing" that education?

Same old silly argument - we can't do away with crime altogether so why even make the attempt to slow it down. Fact of life, crime prevention requires eternal vigilance. And yes, she has indeed crossed the line from innocent youth living with criminals to adult criminal.

Most people already have that, they call them fences.

Upon adulthood. Before she knowingly steals someone else's opportunity. It's called mens rea.

What other international borders have walls built along their length?

Borders with significant problems from international migration. Haiti to Dominican Rep comes to mind.
Parts of Mexico to Guatemala, Belize to Guatemala, Nicarauga to Costa Rica, most of Turkey facing Europe. South Africa.

No fuel excise taxes are earmarked.

I do not own a house, building barriers is my landlords responsibility.

She did not steal anything, Texas state law permits her to attend school and university on resident tuition and qualify for state sponsorship to university, a certain number of university seats are by law reserved for The valedictorian of each TX high school class.

There is no law to even break, hence mens rea of anything doesn't apply

Not my argument at all.

You don't spend a ton of money on something that won't work and may wind up being counterproductive. That's just common sense.

The "border fence", now "wall" idea came out of Congress as a way to make the American people think that they're really serious about illegal immigration. Since Trump has trumpeted the idea, it has taken on a life of its own on the right wing noise machine. If you oppose this expensive boondoggle, you must be in favor of open borders. That's just nonsense.

We don't need the "puto muro" (Vicent Fox's words). All we need to do is deny the illegals employment and government services until they go back to their home country and apply at the American consul there. After a background check and proof that they've been working and paying taxes in the US, let them come back legally and openly.

Families like the one illustrated in the OP, and there are many, would be able to come here and quit looking over their shoulders for the "migra."

The druggies and gang bangers will just have to stay home.

But, there's a reason why we continue to go on about a wall and spending more billions deporting millions of illegals: the employers of illegals, the same as donate to campaigns, want the cheap labor. They don't want to have to deal with people who have rights.

Being here illegally is a criminal act. So yes mens rea does apply. An illegal should not be valedictorian, she has stolen that opportunity and the resulting scholarship from an American child. She is well aware she is doing it.

Yeah, yeah. I agree that they should have zero access to any social services - but that is not in fact what happens (witnessed by this thread OP). I agree that employers who knowingly hire illegals should get the shaft, but again, that is not what happens, or when it does it doesn't happen enough. Nothing will absolutely stop people from breaking the law. Doesn't mean we don't enforce the law.

The wall we have has been effective, finishing the job will be even more effective.

I stole this education from you all and now I'm so proud!

The same as any other illegal.

Taxpayers are the victims . Hard working parents go without to put their children in college and have to pay back huge student loans . And others hop a fence , get everything free and mock you later .
