Laredo Texas Is Under Siege But Ignored by Media and Congress - America Talks Back, News Quote:
Glenn Beck reported today that things are out of control in southern Texas - and help is not on the way. In the famous historic town of Laredo there have been 70 kidnappings of American citizens who were taken to Mexico and held for ransom or killed.
The Sheriff has appeared before Congress numerous times but has gotten no help from the federal government.
| Small Town on Border Near Laredo Living in Terror - America Talks Back, News Quote:
The Laredo Morning Times (online) reported that El Cenizo, a small community of 3,500 residents, is being terrorized by Mexicans who commit crimes and immediately cross back over the border into Mexico.
“Webb County sheriff’s officials said masked gunmen have been terrorizing residents and committing armed robberies, targeting several businesses – including several grocery stores — in the small city.”
El Cenizo is so small it cannot afford its own full time Police Department. “Right now we have seven Texas certified peace officers (volunteer) and one police unit,” said Mayor Raul Reyes. “We have manpower but no vehicles. There is a problem and it has to be addressed before it gets out of hand.”
The Mayor called a meeting of Webb County (Laredo) Sheriff’s Department officials, members of the El Cenizo business community, Police Chief Juan Alejandro, Commissioner Noe Hernandez, Sgt. Brigido Zavala, Sgt. Alex Garcia and Lt. Rudy Valdez of the Webb County Sheriff’s Department. The goal was to stop a string of armed robberies and violent crime in El Cenizo.
“Garcia explained that a major reason why crime is rampant in El Cenizo is because witnesses are often uncooperative with officials.”
“We are always here,” Garcia said, “so don’t think we are just sitting back and doing nothing. But we can’t do much if you don’t help us help you,” he told the residents. “A lot of cases are closed because people refuse to come forward.”
“It’s true. We are uncooperative,” said one female resident and business owner who asked not to be identified for fear of retaliation. “But we don’t say anything because we are terrorized. Everyone here knows something, but they also know they are not safe.”
The resident told how she was robbed. “A man who masked his face with a handkerchief bearing the Mexican flag robbed her at gunpoint. He only stole eight dollars from me, but he threatened our lives.” Her 14-year-old daughter’s life was also threatened.
“My brothers followed the man and tackled him, but he escaped,” she said. “We are living in terror. We don’t trust anyone anymore. It’s true — everyone is a suspect. The way he ran through the brush and jumped the fence, it’s like he knew exactly where he was going,” she said. “He had done this before. But looking for the suspect is useless”, she said.

Boy, the pride of Texas isn't what it was once cracked up to be. |

If one doesn't want to be associated with Mexicans, perhaps one shouldn't live in a municipality that is half in Mexico.

Current Mood: | Re: Laredo Texas Is Under Siege But Ignored by Media and Congress Jamesrage is commonly full of hot air, but this seems like an serious issue. Did you even read the entire post? Criminals coming in, committing crimes, and runnning back to Mexico- seems like a reason to send some National Guard units, or perhaps cut off federal aid to their country. Let's see how quickly Mexico's president decides to deal with his citizens once we actually do something about their crimes.
These robbers- one could probably consider them terrorists. If they wore bandanas with the Iranian flag instead of Mexico's, how quickly do you think Bush would notice?

I doubt Bush would really care all that much. |
