(Reuters) - Jeb Bush, a potential Republican presidential candidate in 2016, said on Sunday that illegal immigrants who come to the United States to provide for their families are not committing a felony but an "act of love."
In comments at odds with the views of many in his party, Bush, the son of the 41st president and brother of the 43rd, said of the divisive immigration issue: "I think we need to kind of get beyond the harsh political rhetoric to a better place.
"I'm going to say this and it will be on tape and so be it," Bush said in an interview with Fox News host Shannon Bream in an event at the Texas presidential library of his father, George H.W. Bush.
"The way I look at this is someone who comes to our country because they couldn't come legally ... and they crossed the border because they had no other means to work, to be able to provide for their family, yes, they broke the law, but it's not a felony.
"It's an act of love, it's an act of commitment to your family.
Bush, 61, added: "I honestly think that that is a different kind of crime. There should be a price paid, but it shouldn't rile people up that people are actually coming to this country to provide for their families."
Bush repeated at the event that he would decide on a presidential bid by the end of the year.

I agree with what Jeb stated. People come to this country because they basically need to, to survive. They to it as an act of survival, not because they want to destroy something. Immigration reform is needed in this country ASAP.

I think Jeb, like Christie, and many other RINO's need to re register as democrats and run for their parties nomination. The idea of no borders might be a great leftist utopia but in my world I prefer a controlled border and keeping people out that do not belong her - including kicking those out who violate our laws.

The world has many folks that live in less prosperous countries but that is no reason that the US should have open borders. Immigration policy that has no restrictions is insane, especially in a nation that has biirthright citizenship.

"Oh".....does Jeb think he is an actual contender? Well.....anything is possible on paper, I guess.

I dont think there are any serious proposals such as this one and Jeb did not state that either...

The U.S. is also a sovereign nation that has a right to defend it's own borders and only allow those it wants to, into it's borders.

Sheldon Adelson did or he wouldn't have been invited to Vegas.
Remember what happened to Rubio over Immigration?

Why do you suppose Adelson didn't invite Jindal and Haley, both GOP governors of Indian descent?
Libertarians are coalescing around Rand Paul and Elites are having trouble with which governor to pick .

One of the after-effects of multiculturalism is that in also infects those who should be its opponents. Bush and plenty of RINOS have gotten past the notions national sovereignty, us vs. them, common culture and only see the leftist, multicultural side of the issue - how things look for the illegal infiltrator. The destruction of communities, the displacement of Americans from the labor market, these aren't even on the radar of RINOs.

People who tend to be against illegal immigration, amnesty and uncontrolled legal immigration tend to not try make people feel sympathetic towards illegals, nor do they try to distort the criminality of illegal immigration. People who come here illegally the first time have committed a misdemeanor criminal offense, people who come here illegally more than once have committed a felony criminal act. So it is pretty obvious that he is pro-illegal piece of ****.

The hate is sure on display here. RINO??? I didn't know there was a test to either join or stay in MY party.

What JB says on this subject makes sense, and he also said there should be a penalty for breaking the law.

You just said that multi-culturalism has after affects that infect your own conservatives.
Do you think Jeb Bush considers his wife and children an infection?
Not too sure Barbara Bush feels that way.

All of your rejections of mixed-race, in all of the dp threads you've been on, would lead to the cleansing of the white race .

I think that is unique to the U.S., no one not even the Liberals, like illegals here.

Me thinks Jeb's Hispanic wife has him by the cojones. That elitist POS RINO just lost any chance of my vote.

It is amazing how if a Republican has an independent thought they are a RINO....there was another political party that discouraged independent thought...I can't remember their name......hmmmmm

I slightly disagree with Jeb there. That being said, the sheer number of Republicans that are called "RINOs" for differing from the pack on a few issues only ensures that there is more pressure to rail against those that want purity.

If I break into your house and squat there while you're on vacation, what should happen to me after you return? Should I pay a fine and then continue to live with you?

What Bush does is he rejects the notion that immigrants MUST be INVITED. He accepts the notion that an immigrant can IMPOSE his joining society on an unwilling society simply by paying a fine.

The penalty for imposing your presence is to be kicked out.

And to the OP...WTF do you want?...there's already 10s of millions here.

Living their American dream.

This open borders crap should concern everyone. Not all of them are striving for survival.

Canada has a pretty good immigration policy. It's even "racist" so double-bonus points there.

I'd say Jeb and the others you call RINOs ARE the GOP, and it is about time they get control of the party back from the 'angry old white guy' wingnuts. Common sense and a more open stance instead of all coiled up and hissing...

Illegal immigrants are not the major displacer of Americans from the labor market, the labor market was moved to China, India... (name the emerging nation of choice)

My heart is always warmed when a "progressive" shows his concern for conservatives and counsels them on what is the best road to take. Thank you, thank you very much. I'm sure that we'll be able to count on your vote for Jeb Bush, right?

I'm going to differ with you though - I think that the nation is best served by having two distinct and competing visions of how government should be run, not two similar leftist positions.

Meh...I am more conservative than most folks and I agree completely w/ Jeb Bush. Illegal immigration is one of those subjects that causes people to lose any semblance of rational thought. Its foolish to assume you can go on an illegal immigrant rodeo roundup and arrest, charge, and remove 20-30 million illegal immigrants. And lets be honest...they are here for a few reasons but not the least of which is...we have made it very easy and convenient for them to be here.

Personally...I'll keep 20-30 million illegal immigrants that are willing to come here and bust their ass and earn a living for themselves and their families any day especially if we can trade them for 20-30 million of our self-crippled and dependent pets that lay around looking for someone to take care of them because life is too hard or its unfair.

We can fix a lot of things pretty painlessly. Give everyone that is already here a green card. Give employers a green card/SSN database with a go/no go test. Fine the hell out of employers that intentionally hire illegal immigrants. Quick fast and in a hurry.

Another piss poor CON whine.

Did anyone break into your house?
Did we all leave the country so someone could 'break in' and live?
This country isn't your house- for one you couldn't afford the property taxes...
The law is pretty clear on what the rules are about PRIVATE property and PUBLIC property

Now I saw the interview, Jeb Bush said pretty damn clearly the borders need more security- so the 'open borders' crap is just that, CON crap.
