Obama still wants to pass amnesty.

So does Gingrich and Romney can't be trusted seeing how he supported amnesty.

Obama: I've got 'five years' left to solve immigration - POLITICO.com

In an interview with Univision Radio, President Barack Obama said that he has "five years" left in his presidency to figure out issues like comprehensive immigration reform. Striking a confident note about his reelection prospects, Obama assured a largely Hispanic audience that he has not given up on getting an immigration bill done — one that would provide a pathway to citizenship.
"My presidency is not over," Obama told Univision's Eddie “Piolin” Sotelo. "I’ve got another five years coming up. We’re going to get this done."
Obama also said that Hispanic voters would ultimately face an easy choice in deciding between him and the Republican nominee in November — emphasizing his support for comprehensive immigration reform and a pathway to citizenship.
"So far, ... we haven’t seen any of the Republican candidates even support immigration reform. In fact, their leading candidate said he would veto even the DREAM Act, much less comprehensive immigration reform," Obama said, in an apparent reference to former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. "So the choice at the presidential level will not be that difficult."
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

Seems our President is pandering to the hispanic vote. Hopefully the election will nullify his "ive got fire years left.." statement.

He doesn't want to pass amnesty. If he did, he would have done it already. No, he'd rather keep the issue in his back pocket so he can pull it out whenever he needs to boost his ratings amongst the Hispanics...like in an election year.

    Quoted for truth.

I also think that's why Republicans never made good on their threats to make abortion illegal or to actually reduce the size of government. They need something to run on.

I disagree with you in respect to the Republicans reducing the size of government.

Yes, at one time they were not interested in actually reducing the size of government...and they got spanked as a result. I think they learned their lesson and changed their tune. The result is they were given control of the House last Nov. 2010. Since then, they've taken steps to reducing the size of government, but they've been opposed by the Democratic-led Senate and by the President. If they make gains in Nov. 2012, I think you'll see them make good on their goals of reducing the size of government.

I disagree. Pro-illegal in both parties have made multiple attempts at amnesty. Obama is trying to neuter states in their attempts in cracking down on illegal immigration and they even closed the ICE program that cross trains local law enforcement to crack down on illegal immigration.

He's gonna drag his feet on this one. For him to move on the issue now is a stupid play in an election year.
Nobody who wins a war indulges in a bifurcated definition of victory. War is a political act; victory and defeat have meaning only in political terms. A country incapable of achieving its political objectives at an acceptable cost is losing the war, regardless of battlefield events.

Bifurcating victory (e.g. winning militarily, losing politically) is a useful salve for defeated armies. The "stab in the back" narrative helped take the sting out of failure for German generals after WWI and their American counterparts after Vietnam.

All the same, it's nonsense. To paraphrase Vince Lombardi, show me a political loser, and I'll show you a loser.

I seriously doubt that. Many democrats lost their jobs as a result of passing the brady bill. The republicans who replaced them basically did nothing to repeal the brady bill.

If you bothered reading the rest of the post you would know it has to do with politicians not keeping their promises once they make significant gains. Much like those republicans who did nothing to repeal the Brady these republicans will do nothing to reduce the size of government when they have significant gains.
