Amnesty was tried already when there was only 3 million illegals in the country. Now we have at minimum 4 times that amount in far less time than it took to build up the 3 million. Obviously it just encouraged more illegals to come. And there are plenty of other reasons to deny amnesty.

I agree. Until we can find a way to stop illegal aliens (significantly reduce the influx), granting amnesty does nothing to solve the underlying issue. That is the amount of people entrying this country illegally or overstaying their visas. Until then, I say no to any dream act or amnesty bill. As you stated it has been tried and all we have is more illegal aliens.

At the time they were claiming that only 1.3 million illegals would get amnesty.

I'm sorry, something tells me illegals are more driven by economic concern than the selfish evil greedy desire to become Americans.

That is fine if they do it the LEGAL way and while they are totally to blame for breaking the law? The folks on the Hill are to blame for allowing this to get to the point where it is really almost out of control and no matter what we do about it? The legal working folks in this country are gonna have to PAY to make this right. It makes me so mad

Nobody has actually bothered to calculate the value of illegal immigrant labor, considering they've been a massive labor force since the US reached down into concerned areas.

Which legal working folks? Some states are finding it difficult to find employees for agriculture work since the crackdowns on illegal immigrants started because, yes, Americans find it too difficult and they can probably get paid more flipping burgers. Alabama has considered work release for convicts to do the work, however many that would be eligible already have work release positions.

I do admit that paying illegal immigrants may drag down wages because they are willing to work for less.

I know its the NPR and I don't particularly care for them but...

Simpson says the amnesty provision actually saved the act from being a total loss. "It's not perfect, but 2.9 million people came forward. If you can bring one person out of an exploited relationship, that's good enough for me."

But even if we go with your numbers that is going to be even worse.
