It takes more than a pretty video and a bunch of celebrities singing to make a great president. It takes a person who understands where the true greatness of America lies.

Long before anyone ever heard of Barack Obama, Ronald Reagan challenged Americans to hope, to dream, to believe....

In themselves.

He brought change. He told us "yes we can". Except he also told us we didn't need government to do it. He inspired us with his words and his actions. He showed us that our individual liberty and creativity is what makes our country great, not any government program.

YouTube - Yes, we can (Reagan Remix) v1.0

Reagan was truly the great orator. Before most in the country knew about his politics, I used to listen to him every morning on my way to work. He used to have a commentary on the radio where he talked about politics and his political views.

I was not surprised when he became President and implemented/fought for many of those ideals. Reagan lifted the nation from the doldrums of the Carter years and his oratory got the country back on its feet and made many feel good about being an American again.

:2wave:

I'm not of the "Reagan was the Greatest President Ever" mentality, but I sure do love some of his speeches.

the greatest president ever? George washington!

Although this is :ot ,I think any argument about best Presidents has to also include Abe Lincoln along with Washington.

Why can't we find anyone like these dudes anymore? ::sigh::

Opportunities to do truly great things like freeing the slaves, saving the nation, or founding the nation don't come up that often. As great as the men themselves were, it was the really circumstances they were in that allowed them to show it

John Tyler was the Shiznit (and he was perhaps the horniest President of all time)

:rofl You know, I know absolutely nothing about him, but now I'll have to find out!

Funny, after Clinton was elected, I was wondering why we couldn't find dudes like Lee Harvey Oswald anymore.

Yeah, I know, that was bad....

not only am I a reagan baby but I was born on his very own birthday. I am destined for greatness.

just thought I'd share.

I think Abe is overrated, not only did he go to war with the South for simply wanting to secede which is extremely controversial, but he tried to get slavery written into the constitution to appease them.

I AM impressed!:2razz:

Why?

Personally I prefer Jefferson.

Reagan was okay but nothing spectacular, he is a lot more hype than substance I've always felt. The last decent pres was Grover Cleveland.

What did Cleveland do that was great?

The south wanted to secede because they were afraid of a federal government that would turn into...well...what it turned into.

Don't worry, there is still one state that can secede legally. (Texas). All is not lost! :D

Really? Why are they the only ones that can do it legally? Would we have to keep all of the illegals?

I think New Hampshire is talking about it too.
