Current Mood: | Re: Benefits from Obesity Surgery / Stomach Stapling I've seen this work wonders on some people and not even work on others. I have an aunt who had this surgery performed almost 2 years ago, and she has only lost 40 pounds. She eats very little, but the weight drop is not what I had seen with a former co-worker who lost over 200 pounds post-surgery.

Get your fat lazy ass off the couch(not you popper, just generally), on the treadmill, go to the gym, take a freakin' walk, quit eating bacon every hour on the hour, eat some baked chicken or fish...
And, you won't have to have invasive surgery... and it costs a lot less money ... geez...

It is safe to assume most obese people are simply out of shape fat asses who let it go, until the health issues started creeping up and then all of the sudden, in American fashion, they want an immediate fix. And I am talking about real obese people according to body fat %. Not people that are obese per the fraudulent BMI charts.

My ex wife used to bitch all the time about the fact that she was fat, but wouldn't do anything about it... and because when we got married, she WASN'T fat, I didn't have the patience to listen to her complain about it... |

Current Mood: | Re: Benefits from Obesity Surgery / Stomach Stapling Fat people evoke an instinctive revulsion in many.
As best I can figure, it's due to some primal instinct left over from tribal times, when food was scarce, and people who ate more than their share were bad people, people who deserved to be shunned and outcast.
Today, obviously, that no longer applies, but there still seems to be a collective perception of fat people as undesirable- greedy, lazy, incompetent, whatever- in the workplace and elsewhere.
I can see why the obese would resort to this extreme measure. They are discriminated against in every facet of life.
But it is very dangerous.
And one can still consume massive amounts of calories, even with a severely reduced stomach capacity; one can, for instance, eat ice cream or sip milkshakes all day long.
I guess it's worked for some people, but equally many seem to have terrible problems with it, and end up having it reversed. And the rate of people who die as a result of this surgery seems excessive, even as compared to other major abdominal surgeries. And they are usually young people, in their prime.
I've never known anybody who had it, so my knowledge of it is limited; I've read a little about it, that's it. I don't have any actual statistics on it.

It was highly desirable in a mate in many, many cultures.
