The general guideline is that they should double/triple their birth weight by their first birthday I think. They start evening out once they become mobile. Prime example: my son. He weighed 5lbs5oz when he was born. By the time he was six months old, he was 18lbs. He's 20 months old now and at his 18 month checkup, he weighed 23lbs. It's hard to keep yourself thin when all you can do is wave your arms and legs around.

Not that i have ever witnessed any problems, but elderly Americans are usually told to minimize sushi consumption.
NCFY, obese children are more often than not consuming an alarming rate of simple carbohydrates. A can of mt. dew (or similar variations) has between 40-48 grams of sugar.

Exercise. Hard cardio walks that build up sweat. Keep your muscles strengthened too. Crunches. Walks.
Do baby bench presses and tickle the **** outa he/she.
Have fun and don't worry. It takes about a year to get back into your pre-preg wait and fitness if you are doing it right, and that means not neglecting your baby in favor of worrying about you.
Enjoy. My kids seem so darn big now. 3.5 and 5.

I am very lucky not to have gotten any stretch marks but I just feel huge and want to get back down as soon as I can. | My wife lost it all just by returning to her old eating habits, nothing more. She was mad that everyone made it out to sound like a big deal. I think media hypes that sort of thing.
Eating good while breast feeding seems to be important though, I'd listen to my body during that time and eat when hungry and not skimp, since ultimately you'll be feeding your baby a high-fat mega-shake all day long. I made sure to give my wife everything I ate and more, none of that eating cereal for dinner crap
Once that's over, at least in my experience, you'll be exhausted from then on to infinity, and it will be easy to eat less, cook less, and stay busy. Eating is always the key to weight loss, as long as you're not an over-eater (quanitity/calorie) in denial you'll probably laugh at how it wasn't an issue.
