Sooo.. I've decided two things. No, three.

1) I ****ing hate not being able to eat what I want, when I want. Something has to give.

2) I'm going to try going off the pill because I think that may be what triggered and facilitated the weight gain. I completely accept my own lack of exercise and eating habits as contributing factors, but the surprisingly fast weight gain started happening just months after starting the pill. I was holding my own just fine with my diet and exercise and then BAM! Two things changed, and one of them was going back on the pill.

3) I need some exercise that I really enjoy doing so I will not only DO it, but WANT to do it. I had that for so long... I didn't think of the stuff I did as exercise, I thought of it as FUN. I need that again. I've decided that I'll take surfing lessons ASAP and give that a shot. Being the water baby I am, I should take it to reasonably easily and I can't imagine that I wouldn't enjoy it. Fricken cold water though. Damnit. LOL

So we'll see! Ordering my wetsuit now.

Probably so.
I went off the pill about six weeks ago, and I immediately pissed out about ten pounds worth of water that I was apparently retaining.

Heh.. I really can't wait to see if it helps me at all. I'll be so happy if it does. I'll be especially happy if I lose these goddamn boobs that I'm carrying around. In less than a year, I've gone from a 36A-B to a 38C. They get in the way and I don't like them. And they limit what I can wear.

I'm sure your bf would help you carry them when he gets home.

Re: Not losing weight - don't understand

5 pounds a month, times 12 months, is 60 pounds.....if you can sustain the 5 pounds a month rate.
As for running, I used to have a serious problem with that. The first 18 years of my life were with heavy smokers, plus I was a runt, grew 2 inches after 18.
But after taking up snorkeling as a hobby for 3 years in my mid 20's, my chest size grew, and I found I could run 3 miles at a time without getting winded. Used to be that a few hundred yards would do it.
Weight usually comes on slowly, it has to go off slowly. Rapid weight loss is not exactly healthy....so keep at it, and good luck...

Re: Not losing weight - don't understand

I did not find other active threads on weight loss, and I am trying to make some progress on weight loss, so I thought I should give a post, to bolster my resolve.

I saw a TV special on stomach stapling, a month ago, and the idea of a stomach staple is to be satisfied with a small dixie cup size of a meal. To get your stomach stapled, you have to drink only water for three days. So it may be easier to just cut back on my meal eating size portions, than the "Easy" way of Stapling. Cetainly I would prefer any easy ways I can find to lose a little weigth.

I went to a weight watcher's meeting a year ago. They told me several things that I have not been able to totally apply.

You should be a little hungry all the time, but avoid getting starving hungry, because you loose control.

Don't eat for 3 or 4 hours before going to sleep for the night.

Eat at least something small for breakfast, do not allow your hunger to build up.

Don't have too much on your plate. Sometimes I eat at a cafeteria, where the serving attendants generously put larger portions on my plate. A fat person should always throw some of their food away. I was always taught to finish my plate. Takes will power to overcome reverse teaching. WW told me to take a separate plate, and reduce my portion sizes, before sitting down to eat.

WW says it takes 20 minutes after eating, for your stomach to feel how full it actually will feel, for the next few hours. So if I eat too much. I will feel like I can eat more, that I am still hungry, even though after 20 minutes, I will start feeling over-stuffed.

I have been eating too close to when I go to bed for the night. I always plan to just take a little nap, but end up sleeping throught the night.

I have been snacking when I am tired, which gets into a short term stimulating feeling, of when I eat a little more, then I feel more awake, until my over-eating catches up to my actual level of tiredness. So I need to watch my snacking when I am tired.

WW says it is good to go to bed a little hungry.

If you put your scales on a carpeted floor you will appear to weigh less, as the carped absorbs some of the weight. I lost three pounds, I just checked. My pants are starting to look too loose. My weight fluctuates.

I ate a smaller breakfast yesterday, and felt slightly hungry till lunch time. Then I ate some of hte wrong stuff, for lunch. I bought a Rotiserie chicken for dinner, with two vegetables.

WW recommended Milk or a dairy product with every meal, to give your gland system the idea that it can rely upon regualr balance meals, and ther eis no need to store extra nutrition for emergencies. WW says they change their recommendations from time to time, over the years, so these WW recommendations are not up to date.

WW recommended Stoufer's Lean Cuisine TV Dinners. Some say "No Preservatives" Some say "Twice the Vegetables."

I have a bag of frozen peas, and a Stir Fry Frozen vegetable package. I open the celophane on top of the tV dinner, and pour on a few extra frozen vegetables. Sometimes I put Sweet and Sour sauce, on the Vegetables. Then I put the celophane back on top of the mound of extra vegetables.

My oven has a Cook Timer Feature, so I use the recommended cooking time, plus 5 minutes for preheating. I walk away. When I think the TV dinner is done, I look for the suace to be bubbling near the bottom of hte TV dinner.

I intended to mae this a short post. Wish I had monsterous results to report.

More consistent exercise every few days, is better than longer exercise, once in a week or two. I have been getting regular exercise by running to work, because I am almost late, but I was one minute late yesterday, so maybe I need to find a better exercise that does not jeopradize my job.

Goodness! I've heard that stomach stapling is pretty dangerous; I don't think they'll do it unless you're like morbidly obese. Like, obese to the point that it poses a severe and immediate threat to your life and health.
At least, I hope they won't.
How heavy are you, anyway?

That's good. Good luck.
I think you've got the right idea to keep a sort of blog or diary (or thread) about it; maybe it will help motivate you.

Exercise is so important.
Could you bike to work? That might be faster.

I not so heavy as to justify stomach stapling, but I am always looking for the easy way. Intelligent laziness.

Here is a link I found for flattening my stomach, without any exercise.

Flat Belly Diet

Oh. Haha! There's no easy way.

I've heard there's no way to spot-reduce.
On the other hand, certain things affect weight distribution.
Like smoking cessation, weirdly enough. And stress reduction.
Stress causes your body to produce an overabundance of a hormone called Cortisol, which affects weight distribution. Too much of it can cause you to pack on pounds around the midsection, instead of distributing your weight evenly over your body.
Although there's nothing that will help you target belly fat specifically, regular cardio exercise will help you with all-around weight loss, and with the reduction of stress, so that your weight will be redistributed in a healthier way.

When u starve yrself... yr metabolism drops. Yr body thinks it is starving so it won't burn fat at all. U end up not losing any weight, as yr metabolism decreases with yr not eating. After the 3 days I think u will find it hard to lose any weight with a low metabolism. Not a good idea, this stapling thing.

Deprivation is never a good thing, moderation is key. Eat what u want to NOT deprive yrself. Just eat small amts of it. Control the portions.

Do u know why they recommend this? I think it is better to understand why u shd do stuff than do them blindly without understanding their use. U can't burn off the stuff u just ate b4 u go to bed. That meal u eat won't be burnt as calories in anything but will all be stored up as fat. That's why they recommend no or small meals prior to bedtime. If u eat a big breakfast, u have a whole day of exercise to burn it off... how do u expect to burn off a huge supper?

As from the above paragraph, breakfast shd be the biggest meal u eat cos it is the one with the most chance for u to burn off. U have the whole day to exercise it off, provided u DO exercise. Never skip breakfast, cos then u need to eat bigger subsequent meals plus it lowers yr metabolism when u skip a meal.

U could ask the attendents to give u smaller portions, or bag it and have it for yr next meal or if u hate leftovers, pass it to the homeless on the street. Don't waste food, ppl starve in India.

This is true. The only solution is to eat slowly. If yr meal takes more than 20 mins.. u know when u r full and u can stop eating. The idea is to know when u r full. If u don't know when u r full ... portion control is the next best thing. Only eat within ur predetermined portions, finish that and no more.

All that supper doesn't have a chance to burn off, but r stored as fat. That's why u lose weight slowly. If u eat a fuller breakfast, medium lunch, smaller dinner maybe a light snack b4 u sleep, this might lick the problem.

If u need to snack often, switch to healthy snacks. Some fruit, maybe? The sugar in the fruit will be an instant pick-me-up. Or try some exercise to invigorate u and make u less sleepy. If u really need to eat/snack what u like, use portion control. One handful of chips, no more after that. Will remove yr deprivation and hunger at least.

It is more impt to know when u r full. Not to go everywhere hungry but to recognise u r full and learn to stop stuffing urself. Sometimes u eat when u r bored, thirsty or sleepy... learn to distinguish when u r really hungry and only eat then. Ppl do more 'emotional eating' than they realize.

Good for u. Weigh less frequently. Don't weigh yrself every day or become obsessive over trying to lose weight or give yrself stress or unnecessary pressure. It isn't trying to lose weight... it is more like trying to gain healthier eating/exercise habits.

Try to eat a huge breakfast, a medium lunch, a smaller dinner and a really light snack (like a glass of miik and some cookies) b4 u sleep. Don't blame yrself if u think u did something wrong or chastise yrself. Just say ok, learn from yr mistakes and avoid it next time.

You can eat what u want. Just control the portions. How to start? Ok, do u know how much u used to eat b4? U do? Good. Now eat 3/4 of that. After 6 mths ... progress to only eating 1/2 of what u used to originally eat.

Keep running. But set off to work from home maybe 5-10mins earlier Running is a fast way to lose weight. U shd run home, too, after work.
