Originally Posted by WI Crippler I can understand. I went from the Marine Corps to a desk job selling insurance. I've already mentioned this elsewhere, but my weight ballooned from 205lbs up to 252lbs in just one year. It wasn't just sitting at a desk, or in a car. It was all the dougnuts and cookies and chips and soda that were right at my finger tips. Plus my McDonalds lunches that could have fed a small country in Africa. I've tried dropping all that weight through working my *** off really hard and eating strict. I would drop alot of weight, and then my body would crash and I'd be back where I started. This last time I have taken a measured approach, and not gone overboard on anything. The results are much better, and I don't feel the need to refuel. I've been on this changed path for about 3 months now and have lost only 14lbs, which is really slow for me(I used to do that in 2 weeks). I just got under 230 last week. My goals are more centered around my running time and the amount of weight I am pushing and pulling, rather than worrying about dropping pounds. I figure if I am progressively running/swimming faster, and lifting heavier weights, the body fat and weight will eventually take care of itself and meet at a happy place. | Yeah, I can see your point, and I understand. As long as I'm seeing results *somewhere*, I should be happy, right? And... if I had GAINED the weight I'd lost, I'd think it was a lot. So, I should look at it that way too.
I guess part of the reason I'm more focused on the weight is because of this bet we're all in at work. We each put in $50 and whoever loses the most weight (by percentage) at the end of 10 weeks wins the pool. Last guy won $1000. But... one of my boys was in on that last bet and he dropped 20lbs in one week just by water weight alone. I mean... he dehydrated himself for days before the weigh in. I'm not doing that crap. And, I'm not doing some stupid rapid weight loss thing to win the bet either. So, I probably won't win it, but that's part of the reason my focus is on the weight.
The other part is because it's measurable. I need something to show that I'm making improvement or else I'll just give up. LOL
And I totally understand about the easily accessible food. At my last job, it was vending machines just feet away from my desk. At this job, it's all the soda I can drink for free. They have fridges all over the fricken office stocked full of soda. Easy access. And free. Oh, and free donuts and bagels on Fridays. Oh, and free catered food all over the office at lunch time just about every day. I mean, it really is a nightmare if you're trying to lose weight and those things are appealing to you.

Not losing weight - don't understand
I've only lost like 5 lbs and only 1% of body fat according to the scales I have. According to the measuring tape, I've lost 3 inches off my waist, 2 inches off my hips, 1 inch off my thighs. I can SEE the effects of the ab workout on my stomach. Granted, I'm nowhere near where I WANT to be, but I can SEE a difference

What are you complaining about? Is there a weight limit on something you are doing?
Don't worry about the weight, be happy with the results. The weight will catch up.

Not losing weight - don't understand
| Just cut out meat and animal products, and you can pretty much eat anything and be skinny.
Meat & dairy slow down your digestion, and therefore your metabolism.

Eat loads and loads of fruits and veggies. Drink tons of water and get good sleep.

Beer, I don't know what it would do if you threw that into the mix; I drink infrequently.
Sleep and water are both excellent for weight control and general health, I'm sure... except that I don't sleep much at all, and I hate water, it literally makes me nauseous. I have to force myself to drink it and can't manage it on any sort of regular basis. I like diet Dr pepper, frozen fruit and juice smoothies, and sometimes iced tea with lots of lemon and Nutrasweet in it (that's about as close as I get to drinking water).
But yes, I have heard that water cleans the toxins out of your system, facilitating weight loss... and that when you don't sleep enough, you are more likely to eat impulsively just to maintain your energy level throughout the day.

However, I do need protein for muscle building.
Additionally, I'm not cutting *anything* out of my diet that I enjoy. I will just cut *back* on the "bad" things. I enjoy meat, I crave meat, I need the protein, therefore it will never be eliminated from my diet. However, I don't eat it all the time, just like I don't eat *anything* all the time.

Just an idea. |

Don't most people only eat it once a day, or maybe twice?
There's also soy. And nuts.
Peanut butter sandwiches are good. |
