From another thread a brought up this subject its quite a sensitive subject(or not) apprantly ive never heard a decent explanation for doing it.

So why is it so popular in America? You ever thought how odd it actually is ?

British Army picked up the habit during the Colonial Era, when soldiers captured in Muslim countries would be forcibly-- and unhygienically-- circumcised if they weren't already. We continued the practice long after the British stopped.

Ton of explanations for why we still do this-- almost all of them complete and utter garbage.

i looked into it before my son was born. i weighed the pros and cons. and I opted not to have it done. there's no good reason to. it's beyond pointless. it's quite barbaric, imo.

I don't like it because it is a violation of a man's body without his consent. If a man chooses to do it in adulthood, that is fine, but the parents do not know if that is what the child would really want.

I have never heard of anyone being offended by a circumsized penis but I had read many health advatges to it. It is the same as a shaved head and long hair, the latter also being a trap for disease.

Its alleged health and hygienic benefits are irrelevant to a modern man who bathes daily and engages in safe sex. I could understand the cosmetic appeal to some, or the inclination to do so for the sake of a spouse's preference, however FEMALE circumcision is barbaric IMO; Male circumcision is just cosmetic surgery to me.
