My mother was a mess and shouldn't have had kids. But, she did one good thing for which I am grateful, and that is having a high tolerance for pain. She passed that gene on to my sister and myself.

Anyway..I was wondering....who here has been diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis but take nothing for it except an nsaid now and then?

I know it is going to just get worse, but every damn med available for RA is nothing but poison since there is no cure. So in essence, you are killing off your good immune cells so they don't attack your joints but those cells also can't attack invading diseases either. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. So I told myself I would rather be damned if I don't...so I haven't.

Thank God for ace bandages, wrist and ankle braces, and no deformity. Yet. But the pain sometimes is really bad. Can't take advil either cuz it screws up my guts (diverticulus). If it ain't one thing, it's another as this life clock ticks.

But I digress. Who has RA and just deals with it the best they can without those damn meds they hand out like candy?
Right now I am in major flareup mode and it sucks.

A friend of mine who was a retired Sheriff told me once, to do everything now that you can, it will only get worse. He dealt with it until the pain became too much even for a bad ass like him. While I dont have RA I completely understand now what he meant. he also advised to do things even if it hurts to do it, since the alternative is doing nothing until you die.

Remove gluten and dairy from your diet. That cuts back the problems usually... maybe not completely, but a huge difference.

My father used the herbs astragalus and ginseng and he claims they helped, and that was after 25 years of popping T3s and all kinds of drugs daily.

I have a different form of arthritis that affects all of my joints. I am trying to get mesenchymal stem cell therapy, but the FDA is withholding it in the U.S. and it is extremely expensive to procure abroad.

I'm sorry to hear of your situation.

I did that for over 10 years, and it got to teh point I couldn't deal iwth it anymore. I finally got on one of the biogenics, and it was the best choice I made. Yes, I have to be careful about infections, but you know what.. I can WALK. I can stand up without pushing off the table. I can go up and down stairs. It's not a pain killer, so it's not addictive.. but it's damn expensive (thank god for insurance).

I subscribed to a magazine "Arthritis Today" and it has some good insights to medications you don't see elsewhere.
