White House Bullies Insurers

So, Obama's message to the insurance companies is, "Play ball with me or you're out of the game."

Sounds like a typical Obama plan.

I know that using the fact that the Govt. is their best customer for leverage is something that Republicans hate. Because it works and yes Obama has also made big pharma negotiate prices too. He doesn't like the Govt. being used as a patsy like you guys. It's OUR money Bush was wasting by forcing Medicare to pay "retail" prices far above worldwide norms for drugs and I bet you loved him for it. The truth is the Federal Govt. does suck....when administrated by Republicans at least. I think they do it on purpose to prove their "point".

So...all you got are two things:

1. The ends justify the means...no matter how odious.

2. When on the defensive, always blame it on Bush.

Frankly, I think you are at the bottom of your barrel when that's all you got left.

BS. Medicare paid discount prices just like other insurance companies, just not as much of a one. Medicare D only really works because the insured mostly are paying insurance companies to gain access to their discount when they exist. Most of the cost still comes out of the consumer, not the company's, pocket, as will also be the case with a great many of these "great" ACA plans.

At least you didn't deny that you like Govt. to be the patsy for business even though it shows you also hate free markets.

You are delusional as usual.

When it comes to the massive Medicare Part D prescription drug program, you’d think Uncle Sam would have pretty good leverage in negotiating drug prices.

But the government is actually barred from doing such bargaining, according to Democratic Wisconsin Congresswoman Rep. Tammy Baldwin -- who lays blame on her opponent for the U.S. Senate, Republican Tommy Thompson.

1. I am not on the defensive here...you are. It's too bad you feel the need to defend Obama's actions and it's too bad you can't do it.

2. I never defend Bush...especially since he hasn't been President for almost 5 years. I've gone past his antics. Too bad you can't.

3. I didn't address your blather about the government because that's all it is...blather. It is irrelevant.

So...you got anything else off-topic you want to talk about? Or do you have some REAL defense you can use to support Obama's actions towards the insurance companies?

The difference between Conservatives and Liberals is Conservatives are more interested in the process and preservation of freedoms and rights while Liberals are more interested in the outcome.

ACA is designed to fail. It is designed that way to force universal health care on us. That will effectively end the right to life in the United States. Rights do not exist through the government. Rights can only be respected and preserved by the government. When the government controls the 5 W's of your healthcare, they control your right to live.

The day I try and defend anyone from a "puff piece" on HOT AIR would be sad one for sure. I do find it interesting that you believe the Govt. should be everyone's patsy. I guess it is more of that self-fulfilling prophecy BS.

The "difference" we are talking about here is whether the Govt. should let business walk all over it , like Bush did with Medicare part D. Conservatives believe the Govt. is only "good" when it is being bled dry by special interests. Liberal take that personally because they feel that the Govt. is an extension of themselves.

So the solution is to let the government walk all over the American people to prove they're bad asses. Great. And this special interests business is pure crap. Tell me about the heavily subsidized green energy sector and all their successes during the Obama administration. You can't talk about the successes because there aren't any. It's a litany of failure - government money garnered from taxes which winds its way back to the democrats. We're subsidizing the democrat party. Supporters of this administration have no justification for accusing anybody of pandering to special interests. None at all.

And STILL you don't address the issue...now, all you can talk about is how this is a "puff piece". Do you think those insurance companies think being bullied by Obama is a puff piece?

It's about time we had a president who stood up against the immoral tyranny of the parasitic health insurance industry.
More power to him.

LOL!!

You guys are pathetic.

Now, it's all the insurance company's fault that Obamacare doesn't work.

LOL!!

No. It is the fault of the the health insurance industry that health care is 18% of our economy when the rest of the world is at about 9%.
Did you know that the USA is the only country in the world where insurance companies are ALLOWED to make a profit selling primary health insurance to human beings?
The rest of the world view this a largely a moral issue ...
...and they are correct.

Pick a country...any country...as long as it's in the rest of the world. And go there.

This is the US. We didn't become an exceptional country...one that millions try to come to...by doing what the rest of the world does.

Come on, Buck...give me a real reason that justifies Obama demanding that insurance companies play ball with him while he's getting his ass kicked over Obamacare.

The govt. is standing up against the insurers who are the ones walking all over the American people. Why do you think we pay double for healthcare?

I don't believe I said that at all. Maybe it's just me, but I can't see it in there anywhere.

Really? Perhaps you can explain precisely how the government is standing up, and the insurance companies are bullying. Are we paying double for healthcare? I'm not, but I haven't participated in the ACA, where it's likely I will, and then some.

How is Obama "bullying" insurance companies? He's handing them 100% guaranteed business.

Millions of people are trying to migrate to countries like Germany as well.
Yes this is America ...a country where the tradition has been that the right of corporations to gouge the citizenry trumps the right of it's people to have a reasonable shot at staying healthy.../sarc

Humanity.

You are correct. Somehow I included your quote with the other one. I should not have. You have my apologies.

Humanity. That's the best you can do? That non-answer?

You know...I've asked this question to others...I'll ask it of you, as well: Do the ends justify the means?

Yes the U.S CURRENTLY spends twice as much the other western nations for healthcare with the same or worse outcomes. Why do you think there is the urgency to make a change? I can't believe you don't know a thing about the ACA. In everything from the language and content of policies to the amount of "overhead" they can charge, the ACA reins in the insurer abuse that has cost us so much for so many years.
