In many countries that use sickness funds for coverage you can chose your own policy, Netherlands for instance. In other countries private insurance is robust and there is ample choice in them. Australia has a large private industry, 49% of us have private insurance.

Tell me, where is there a private ambulance service in the uk?
A private A+E department?
If you are put In an ambulance can you choose which hospital you are taken to?
I can, let's say I had an accident at home, fell in the shower perhaps?
The fire department and a private ambulance arrived.
The closest hospital is the whidden memorial in Everett, the ER there is crap, and the hospital is old( though it is very inexpensive).
Its 5 mins drive from my house. Then the MGH, great but I don't like it, again 5 mins away.
I like the Brigham, it's 10 or 15 mins away, I tell the ambiance, that's where they take me!!

Not so in the uk though!!!
All ambulances are NHS!!
That is ****ty customer service!!
But then again in the NHS you are not a customer.
You are an embuggerance!!
