CNN silliness on the Hearing Protection Act

I'm not particularly in favor of making suppressors super easy to obtain but congress needs to force through as much pro-gun laws as they can in the next two years because there are a lot of red state democrat senators up for re-election in 2016. They will either have to vote to keep thier job or make it a much more republican next senate.

I'm for them. Suppressors just tone it down, they aren't designed to conceal or hide the report of gunfire like the mob in the movies.

Much ado about nothing from people who aren't familiar with the benefits to people some distance away who might want some quiet.

Well a .22 with a suppressor is pretty quiet certainly quit enough to be completely masked by ambient noise in a city. Anything bigger however does still make a bit of noise

I want the entire NFA-as it applies to FIREARMS to be obliterated. Its clearly a violation of the second and tenth amendments

FAKE NEWS: CNN Claims GOP Trying to Remove '$200,000 Tax' on Firearm Suppressors - Breitbart

Too much Hollywood, not enough intelligence from the Clinton News Network

Eh....While the actual article began a bit dramatic, it was OK. What I think is funny, is the guy at the end stating it is safer for hunters not to have Suppressors so other hunters can hear gunshots. But if I am wearing hearing protection while I am hunting, how can I hear the shots of other hunters?? Btw, hunting with suppressors does not seem to be an issue in other countries such as the UK. The bastion of gun control recommend s you use a suppressor. Go figure.

Why would you wear hearing protection while hunting? Do the animals play loud rock & roll 'er what? I mean, I'm sure squirrels square dance, but still...

Have you ever shot your firearms without hearing protection????
Even your firearms are loud enough to cause permanent hearing loss. A single shot from a full power rifle is even worse. Heck, a few .22lr rounds will ring your ears.

I shoot a .300 WSM with a muzzle brake for elk. Without hearing protection, it will cause permanent damage.

You would also be well advised to wear hearing protection while hunting ducks and geese if you're sitting in a blind with multiple other shooters.

Have you ever hunted?

Yea, I was raised around guns.

Do they use hearing protection in combat? Same thing....

Once - I don't do it anymore and wouldn't think of it unless I had to.

Yes, why wouldn't they?

I dunno, they might wanna hear their orders and who's comin up on 'em, just basic survival stuff like that. In a fire fight, your hearing's the first thing to go anyway.

You can still hear with hearing protection. See the link on the USMC with regards to communication requirements.

I know that, but hearing is quite muffled. Never known of anybody to wear hearing protection in combat. But I suppose you'll tell me.

It varies, and is more common in recent conflicts as compared to WWII or Vietnam.

"Burton, a 12-year veteran in the infantry who twice deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, suffered hearing loss due to combat-related noises.

He admitted that in the past, in order to clearly hear his two-way communication devices and Soldiers around him, he had to remove one side of his hearing protection. "

As a matter of fact yes they do. We were required to carry plugs and use them. Even still, most of my co-workers have significant hearing loss.
FYI...A simple Google search does wonders...

Jet continues to prove he knows nothing about hunting. when I did high volume dove shooting in Bolivia and Columbia we always wore hearing protection. Same when we do groundhog hunting with a 223.

Right; and guys died over those M16s too. So, they need to be able to hear in a fire fight, which is what I said.

Rucker just kinda voided your post:

As for Google, why should I go out and validate your assertions?

Moreover, what about the thread topic? I showed how TD's assertion was just stupid.

Yet as you said, as soon as it starts, hearing is gone. Communication still needs to happen during that firefight. Some wear them, some don't.

That's right: combat is rough business.

Go for it. You'll find that some do, some don't. Depends upon the mission, the circumstances and the soldier.

Moreover, what about the thread topic? Is hoed how TD assertion was just stupid.

Hard to say for sure, as one of the points that he made was that CNN edited their story to correct their mistake. I have't seen a link to the original version, so there we are.
