Just bought a new pistol[W:66]

Re: Just bought a new pistol

Hey, I can pack my own reloads, or make shells out of real hard coffee cans.

For the hardcover DIYer, the driving band diameter is 157.98 mm, the projectile weight is 43.2 kg and powder charges range from about 4 to 13 pounds.

I work out.

I'm well aware that the projectile is a single-man carry, as I've loaded 155mm howitzer and fired them before. From directly behind, you can actually watch the projectile fly downrange.

You can purchase empty projectiles pretty easily. No reason to waste coffee cans. Run about 500.00 apiece not including the powder it would take though so it would be a pretty expensive to shoot at the range....

Well, if the going rate is 600.00, my guess is the government is paying about, oh, I dunno, maybe 2 grand? :lamo

for a 40mm grenade?

edit-oh for that big cannon shell-probably

I dunno TD. All I was really trying to say, whatever the MSRP price would be, we can expect the government to pay 2 1/2 times that amount in the spirit of 900.00 toilet seats.

Re: Just bought a new pistol

This used to be my gun. Uncle Sam wouldn't let me keep her. :(

sometimes that is true but some of the stuff the Government buys they get much better prices on it. I think the cost of a M9 pistol to the government is substantially less than the 500+they sell for in gun stores

Prolly 'cause they buy a million-gazillion of them.

true but many are at the end of their service life and a new "Modular handgun system" is being contemplated to replace them. wonder if the old M9s will be available from the CMP

I used to collect variations of the M9 and have 3 of the rare Billenium as well as a Brigadier and a few commemorative models from the Gulf war etc. They are good pistols but a bit large IMHO. and the DA/SA trigger is not as easy to shoot well as the striker fired rigs like the SW M&P, the Glock and the new HK. Most of the military complaints about the pistol are based on older pistols being worn down and the fact that NATO spec/Hague Convention 9mm ammo isn't all that effective for stopping a charging jihadist.

Same here. Let's move on and refocus on the topic of the thread.

Thank you.

Re: Just bought a new pistol

Took that pistol down to the range last weekend, and it fired great. I'm happy with it, and the sights were right on.

with fixed sights you often have to choose the right load for best hi/lo accuracy. a Heavier bullet usually will print HIGHER at normal pistol distances.

the two key things I tell my students

one-firm grip with the weak (non trigger) hand

WATCH YOUR FRONT SIGHT

Right now I'm doing a lot of dry-fire practice to change my grip. I used to wrap the weak side forefinger around the trigger guard and I'm working to move it down to a more proper hold.
