will we see cheaper ammo and firearms?

Is there still a shortage in Virginia???

Well you can forget about Walmart. And gun show prices are not that great, so you have to order online or go to expensive gun shops.

Huh. We havent had a problem out west in at least a year now.

I always told my kids...fill your safe. If you are going out to shoot 2 bricks, buy 4 and put the other 2 away. We never felt the ammo crunch. Ive got so much 22LR ammo I dont know that I could ever shoot it all.

Well...sure...

OK...but for the record...I bought all of mine BEFORE the crush and I dont resell and price gauge.

Some people invest in stocks. Some people invest in gold. Some people invest in silver. I invest in lead. ;)

OK, so a lot of rich idiots bought a bunch of guns they'll never use for too much money. How many of them also bought a bunch of gold at 1800 an ounce off all the scaremongering right wing sites.

suckers

Not gold, but lead ingots... and bullet molds. :2razz:

You think .22 caliber ammo will be available again at local stores?

i am thinking business geared up to have a lot of ammo to sell ay higher prices thinking Hillary was going to win, now with trump i don't think sells would be a brisk, so they might have to unload what they stocked up on.

Geesh...even more since the 80s.

I could buy a S&W 686 almost anywhere for $360. Had a chance to buy 2 new Colt 1911 .45s in 1985 for $210. Already had two and passed them up.
Paid $100 in the 70s for an original 1944 M1 Carbine, in excellent condition.

Did you know, that in the early 80s, you could buy a fine S&W revolver, in any particular model or barrel length, nickle or blued, all for the same price? Example: all Model 19s were the same price, no matter what the barrel length or material. I'm really partial to the 5 inch barrels, for balance. Not sure if you can even buy one today, in that length.

I could go on, but the price of guns today, especially fine revolvers, seems really high.

Revolvers are crazy, they often cost more than autopistols. I'm told it is because they have become a "niche" market and aren't produced in large numbers.

Wish I'd never sold my Smith Model 13.

Well.. we have seen the prices of ammo dropping and the availability of reloading supplies increasing for the last say year. Overall, I think the angst over Obama simply died down. I think the prepper movement also has seemed to die down. You don't see all sorts of prepper shows anymore. And I think supplies have simply caught up.

I will admit.. I am getting a kick at gun shows with all these dealers selling 45 dollar boxes of .22 ammo. Whats funny.. is every gun show (yeah.. I rarely miss one) their seems to be more and more dealers with boxes of .22's out. and I NEVER see anyone buying it. Yet the prices haven't seem to drop.

I still go to the gun shows but I dont buy guns or ammo there. I might look at the latest in carry/concealment rigs, or I might buy accessories. Theres a guy that does Glock tune ups so I usually take in one of my Glocks to have him crank on it for a while. The internet is killing a lot of the retail store availability for accessories and much of the stuff you can get at the gunshows are just cheap quality, especially things like the aftermarket mags. But every once in a while you find something you just have to have.

I think it's the cost of the steel, used to produce them, plus the labor it takes to craft and fit a steel gun, versus a plastic gun.

You might notice that most steel autos, are far more costly than the polymer ones. With the exception now of Glocks.

Initially, when they first went on the American market in 1986 and all through the 90s, they were underselling everyone. They were revolutionary and I bought my 17 in '86 as quick as I could. No one that I knew in law enforcement in all of Oregon or California, had one. I paid $330 with 3 Hi-cap mags. Today, if you can find one with even 2 mags, and under $550, you've got a deal.
It was my duty gun until I retired.

And I really prefer my Gen. I, to all the others.

At one point in the 80s, I had every model S&W made, but I was forced to sell some due to life's experiences. I've endeavored to replace some of them and I've gotten some pretty good deals off of armslist.

I haven't been to a gunshow in over 30 years. I never found a deal at one and quit going. We had an FFL guy in town who would buy cops anything they wanted, for $20 over cost. I'd look at Shotgun News every month, pick out what I wanted and go to him and order it. No BGC required for cops, so no fees on that.

Lot's of fun, no hassles, no gimmicks, no coupons and he was only a block from the Department.
The department sent me to Glock Armorer school and I learned to work on them and tune my own.

the only thing I buy at gunshows are

1) automatic knives

2) bullets to save on shipping costs

never guns or ammo. (though a ammo maker might have a delivery for me there)

Well you have to remember when obama was election, he also had a democrat congress, and their was talk of bans,, also by your contention, their are a lot of idiots, because people sure do buy many goods when a storm comes, because they are not prepared as you seem to be

Yeah I remember all the ban talk... mostly from the DELUGE of fearmongering NRA junk mail I got, and some rabble rousing PUBs in Congress....

50 of those congress critters lined up to quote one or two Dems (ignoring all the other Dems who said repeatedly no bans) and suddenly the fear was 'real'... :peace

I haven't been to a 'gun' show in years either...used to hit the big one in Tulsa but they have turned into a knife sharpening, cheap steel case ammo selling hodge podge. used to buy 30 cal bullets to reload and some bulk Varget, I roll my own, but those guys quit attending.

We have several FFLs here who do the +20 purchases and you don't have to be a Cop, but I pretty much have all the action/receivers I want, like my holster and have enough practice invested in it to ever want to change it.

Need to rebarrel my LTR, dress up an old Winchester action that belonged to my FiL, but frankly like the bolt guns I have already fixed up the way I like 'em... :peace

Good deal. I've been reloading since '79....saves a lot of money.

me since 85. Over half a million pistol rounds

I never got into shot shells...don't shoot that many and the department always supplied what I needed in slugs and 00 Buck.

all three of us in my family shoot olympic trap that requires lots of shells since you can shoot 2 shots at a target. Also we use 3/4 ounce loads which are low recoil and get 500 shots out of a 40 dollar bag of lead

Back in the day when I was a pretty active (2000 registered ISU skeet targets a year) skeet competitor I started reloading-back then good shells were 4-5 dollars a box and reloads were 2.50. Now its 3.50 to 4 for reloads and 545-7 for factory but there are no factory loads at 3/4 so I reload mainly to cut down on recoil

Yes it does, in my case over 50% savings. I use Varget- which isn't used by more than Hornady and their Amax bullet for almost everything I hunt and all my comp LR shooting. Hornady is awfully proud of their stuff. I use the Lapua FMJ 308 for feral hogs- MUCH better pen over the Amax. Lapua isn't all that easy to get a hold of as loaded ammo around here, and never with Varget powder.

I believe my round, tweeked to around 2880FPS is about as accurate as the Amax or FMJ lapua gets. Varget is pretty temp insensitive and around here I shoot in 20* winters to 100 and WHAT??!! summers. No pressure signs like the older IMR powders. Others are now pretty temp stable but I kinda like to dance with the one that brought me...

one rifle, one load, one set of come-ups to memorize... life is good... :peace
