My Gun Control Plan [W:1271]

33,000 people die every year because of gun violence. It's easier to get a gun than it is a car. Ar-15's are being sold at Walmart. Something needs to be done this is my plan

1. Close the gun show loophole
there's no reason that just because weapons are being sold at a gun show that background checks shouldn't be required. This seems like common sense at this point.

2. Impose stricter background checks
People on the terror watch list shouldn't be able to purchase firearms. People with a history of mental health issues shouldn't be allowed to purchase firearms. It should be much more difficult to get a permit to purchase and carry a firearm from where I can obtain a permit in 22 states online.

3. Ban heavy assault weapons
This is my largest point. The only weapons that should be legal to own are 1. Handguns with a magazine capacity of 10 or less 2. That can hold 6 shells or less 3. single shot hunting riffles. There is no reason a private citizen needs an AR-15 heavy assault weapons are used for one purpose and one purpose only to kill and to kill efficiently they have no place in domestic America.

Those are my 3 main points for my gun control plans.
Your thoughts?
I'll compromise with you.
1-All purchasers must go to their nearest law enforcement agency and get an affidavit notarizing that Law Enforcement has indeed done a background check. The affidavit is good for up to 30 days. No actual gun purchase is registered with the background check and all sellers must verify the affidavit prior to transaction.
2-Terror watch lists are scrubbed. No one can be on the terror watch list for more than 72 hours without a preliminary background check having been done. The governemnt will be fined and subject to lawsuit for anyone on the list for more than 72 hours without an investigation. Denial of Constitutional rights cannot be enacted prior to recorded due process. If you are going to use mental health issues as an exclusionary weapon against citizens, you must apply that same criteria to access to automobiles, knives, and certainly child custody.
3-Sorry...you need to reread the Constitution. The 2nd Amendment does not guarantee me the right to defend myself. The 2nd Amendment MANDATES my right to keep and bear military grade weapons as a last line of defense of country. You want to try to change that...feel free. Get started on the amendment process.

Deal?

I'm curious. What percent reduction in gun violence would you expect from enacting such policies?

Mine is two handed modified weaver stance. Speaking of the SAXET gun show is coming up, I got my eye on a nice Ruger.

The less shot burgalars, rapist, muggers and robbers will be really high. Thus lives saved, see.

1) any gun at a gun show sold by a licensed dealer has to go through a background check.

2) People with mental health issues already are not allowed to purchase a weapon. The problem lies in the mental health data base being kept up to date. Focus your rage on that.
As for those on the terror watch list... who keeps the list? How does someone falsely put on the list clear themselves? Taking away a persons rights simply because the government decides they should be on a list? Very slippery slope.

3) Why are you calling it 'heavy'??? An AR-15 isn't heavy in any sense of the word. Do you comprehend that it simply fires one round every time the trigger is squeezed? The only reason people like you fear the weapon is because it LOOKS like an assault RIFLE? It isn't one. Why are you trying to limit clip size? People simply carry more clips. A person proficient with a weapon can change a clip in a few seconds.

Do you believe any restriction put on guns violates the 2nd?

Yes. Any restriction on firearms infringes the right of a citizen to keep and bear arms.

I think you're right on the money, and welcome to DP by the way: :2wave:

I am a staunch second amendment supporter, AND gun owner, but I also know social problems when I see them and this rabid gun culture that has invaded our political system has created more of a mess than they even realize. Your suggestions are not new, but they would be a great start to buckling up and having the nerve to do something about the problem with mass shootings and proliferation of combat weaponry that gets into the hands of gangs in this country.

Just recently, and local drug and gun bust took place and look what was found:

Thanks for posting your suggestions.

My ex-Father-In-Law's firearm collection makes that piddly bunch look laughable...and he's not even a real gun nut.

I'm not impressed.

Which one? I ask because I own 8 different Rugers, more any other brand I own, guess that makes me sort of a fan of theirs but there are few models I am not as impressed with.

Correct, I have more than twice as many, I have friends that make my collection look like a part time hobby. I do like those pieces of green paper next to them and try collecting those as much as possible.

Nice little gun, I own one along with an LCP, a really small gun. Consider the LC9 also almost identical in size, yeup, have one of those also and you will get a slight bit more power, you will not go wrong with either the 9 or 380, and Ruger makes good American Made firearms. Try an find the Pro model, they hae an upgraded trigger and the few extra dollars are well worth it. Practice, Practice, and Practice some more. I like the Winchester (White Box) for range ammo but keep my Hornady Critical Defense or Critical Duty for real world use. Note when buying ammo, the 9mm Hornady comes in a reduced recoil Critical Defense round and the ladies do seem to like it better. Good Luck and have lots of fun.

what a cesspool of ignorance and stupidity.

calling an AR-15 a heavy assault weapon means you are too ignorant to be making any policy decisions about firearms.

anything civilian police use in terms of firearms other citizens ought to be able to freely buy and possess

All pretty reasonable common sense stuff there

If I were you I'd take cover now ......

it figures that you would find lie filled nonsense to be "common sense"

No political movement is more fraudulent or based on lies than the Bannerrhoid Movement

at a federal level yes other than say laws that prevent someone from carrying weapons on federal property like a federal courthouse

My favorite is a .40 Berretta, same look and basica feel of the classic 9mm but with a bit more UMPH. That's first on my list.

maybe the biggest lie I have seen on the Gun board but when someone supports the inane suggestions of the OP you know he is a gun banner. You cannot support bans on semi auto rifles and claim to support the second amendment-either as it was intended to be interpreted or even the watered down Scalia version which is tainted by his faint hearted originalism,

Yes. Any restriction on firearms infringes the right of a citizen to keep and bear arms.

Since there has been a federal ban on assault weapons and several states have bans as well, your declaration is incorrect.

What lie ?

Does it have a website ? :lamo

You think that an AR 15 is a Heavy assault weapon or that there is a gun show loophole in the law?

The post was not made for YOU for any reason. The post was made to show the types of weapons that today's drug gangs have access top and why some AND their clips should be banned.

That's as moronic as saying because DC banned handguns for years that was not a violation of the 2nd Amendment or that since "separate but equal" existed for decades-that was constitutional too. The federal AWB died off and under Heller could not survive federally.

and stop the blood clot lying that you support the second amendment.

Do you realize how incredibly stupid that is-You show magazines and Guns (guns that are illegal to own if you are a drug dealer) with DRUGS. What does that tell us-the DRUGS are COMPLETELY BANNED YET the evidence shows that people obtain them despite the laws

Just like they will the magazines. (they are called magazines to people who actually understand the issue)

so you just crashed Jet and shot yourself in the foot. TREATING GUNS AND normal capacity magazines like illegal narcotics means the criminals will still traffic them

All your moronic suggestions do is what you intend all along

MAKE ALL OF AMERICA suffer the same idiocy that you do in California

You think that an AR 15 is a Heavy assault weapon or that there is a gun show loophole in the law?

This guy was simply setting out his moderate views and you don't like them because they clash with your rabid extremism .

I seriously doubt lying played any part in that

I only have one .40cal, a Glock G22, while a fine handgun I do prefer my G17 and even better the G19. While the .40 is a great caliber, excellent stopping power, I shoot the 9mm far better and that is what counts, accuracy. Thinking of adding a CZ or the new Ruger American, while I still can get one and get the mags to go with it.
