As Congress Remains Deadlocked on Guns, Action on State Laws Heats Up

They know punishing people or stripping them of their rights without due process is wrong. That is what is really sick.

I cannot believe this country is going to start stripping people of their rights and punishing them without due process. These people are in such fear they want to go back to the days of accusing and punishing without evidence or proof. Break out the torches I guess we will start burning witches as well. We don't need proof or due process just suspicion. God help us.

I had a neighbor call the police and swear they saw me cut their clothes line when I was 16. The police came to my house and my mother informed them I was working with my father in another town putting in a boiler that night. A phone call to the customer and their testimony that I had been there for the last 3 hours replacing their boiler they went back to the neighbor who admitted it was dark and they really couldn't tell who it was. That is the reason for due process so innocent people are not punished or stripped of their rights on suspicion.

If I were the cop, I would have arrested the neighbor

If I were the cop, I would have arrested the neighbor

That is the problem with an eye witness. People see what they want to see. It was a tall skinny teenager and I was the only tall skinny teenager they knew. So they saw me. This is actually very common. We had a mock up surprise gun fire situation in one of my police classes and you would be surprised how a room full of cops could all get it wrong. That is the reason for collecting evidence and seeing if it supports what was seen.

As Congress Remains Deadlocked on Guns, Action on State Laws Heats Up
“………..From Sacramento to Trenton and Tallahassee to Des Moines, lawmakers, interest groups and activists skirmish almost daily over pending legislation to either tighten or loosen restrictions on firearms. These smaller battlegrounds are where both sides in the long-running political battle roll up their sleeves and engage in lobbying and grassroots organizing aimed at tilting the national battle — one law at a time…………. The non-partisan National Conference of State Legislature found that state lawmakers enacted nearly 70 gun-related measures in 2014 alone.

Gun rights groups concede that advocates for tighter gun restrictions are more active at the state level than before — a fact they attribute largely to the entry of Everytown, which is backed by former billionaire former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, to the playing field. But they say they have more than held their own in getting new state laws passed………. In addition to pushing through new laws, anti-gun-violence groups are turning to ballot initiatives as an end-run around state legislatures where gun rights groups — led by the NRA — have bottled up legislation……….
…….. new tool already has been used successfully in Washington state, where voters in 2014 approved an initiative requiring universal background checks on gun purchases. Similar ballot initiatives are on the November ballot in Nevada and Maine, and California voters will consider a measure known as the "Safety for All" initiative that would significantly strengthen what already are the most-restrictive gun laws in the nation.

It is dreaming if yall think Congress will ever pass any meaningful common sense gun regulation law…….or debate the issue and/or offer a bill to be voted on in either Chamber…….There is no other way to say it……..Most all in Congress are cowards who’s first and only priority is to be reelected……….
The only way sensible gun regulation can happen is by political action in the states where the voice of the people are closer to the ears of those who can make reasonable regulations of guns can be enacted ………Period

So you are calling the CDC and the Congressional Research Service liars? Or that the founders intended for the people to have the right to keep and bear arms? No imyoda, it is not I lying or making it up or being incorrect. You are going to have to do better than that because your response to me is BS. I never just assert an opinion without having my ducks in a row:

"A free people ought not only to be armed, but disciplined..."
- George Washington, First Annual Address, to both House of Congress, January 8, 1790

"No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms."
- Thomas Jefferson, Virginia Constitution, Draft 1, 1776

"I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery."
- Thomas Jefferson, letter to James Madison, January 30, 1787

The quotes you use are NRA oldies. The only problem is either the statement is not true; has been altered; or translations from another source………….
I bet you did not know that..........

And to use these as some form of defending you position of no regulation ever by anyone is asinine and of no value when compared to the lives that have been needlessly lost for the selfish desires of the few at the expense of the many………

And using the massaged statistics as presented by CNS – well-known biased RW group/site
Is the height of dishonesty……… a quality so common to the gun nuts the rest of society has to put up with……..

None of those quotes were incorrect. And the chart came from our own CDC and Congressional Research Service, only reported by the Canadian News Service, which you can't prove was right wing or NRA involvement. You are calling very credible sources liars. That there are some quotes attributed to Washington or Jefferson, the ones I quoted are listed in the Library of Congress and repeated in credible sources. So blow it out of your excremental orifice. You have no leg to stand on. Check them out at a credible site.

Explain then this SCOTUS term 3 decisions of state gun laws......current new gun regulation laws passed in 2 states mentioned in this string........ With none being challenged in court........

The bill of rights is blatantly clear. The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Nowhere is there any fine print that says you can deny a law abiding citizen their right to keep and bear arms.

Imyoda, are you trying to posit that the rulings of the SCOTUS imply states have the right to regulate arms outside the limitations of the Constitution?

He is probably one of those libs who screamed bloody murder that corporations are not people at the citizens united ruling and hopes that Clinton will appoint judges who will overturn that ruling while pretending he cares that the SCOTUS is the end all that the issue of the 2nd amendment.

Corporations are not people. They should have no rights as such and should pay no taxes.
