Japan Needs to ban Knives

According to gun banners...as long as they still allow single shot weapons they arent 'banning guns'.

According to gun rights activists...as long as they are prevented from purchasing one type of firearm or one type of ammunition, then they are suffering at the hands of "gun banners."

and right they are. there is no reason to prevent honest people from buying ANY firearm or ammo. If civilian police can use it-other civilians should be able to own it

and why does the second amendment's PROHIBITION on government action CHANGE depending on what I already own versus what YOU may want to buy?

Some in England have also proposed knife bans.

they already ban some knives. A friend of mine who worked in Cincinnati took a job as a solicitor (attorney) with Lloyd's of London. He gave me several small knives that he could not have in London since the blades could be locked open.

what idiocy

It doesn't. The standard of strict scrutiny applies in all of those situations.

Also, police are - by definition - authorized to do a great deal more than other citizens. Access to certain types firearms is and should remain part of that differentiation.

you are confused. Police have NO GREATER right to kill another citizen than you or I do

and where the police have extra powers is where they can possess the weapons or how they can carry them

if a weapon is useful for a CIVILIAN police officer to have for the proper role (self defense) than its equally useful for other civilians who are attacked by the same criminals

remember-we citizens who are NOT cops DO NOT CHOOSE when and where we have to deal with criminals. We usually don't have back up or two way radios connected to armed backup or wear body armor. IF ANYTHING we need MORE effective weapons than cops

did you read what was actually posted? Have you read the extensive list of weapons that banners are targeting? Did you read the criteria listed?

Do you support the Feinstein proposals?

Japan's crime rate is 1/4 that of the United States
Japan's homicide rate is 1/5 that of the US
Japan has slightly fewer police officers per capita than the US (200 per 100k, vs 250 per 100k)
Ratio of violent crime to guns: Japan = 0.6, the US is 88.8

It should be screamingly obvious that if you're trying to highlight the potential issues of gun control, Japan is probably the worst point of comparison to the US.
It should also be screamingly obvious that none of the countries used for comparison to the US via gun laws have the illegal immigrant and gang populations we have to endure and that if you remove certain groups from the equation our figures change dramatically.
