I just received my current copy of "Rifleshooter" Magazine in the mail. Guess what was on the cover? A beautiful SINGLE SHOT rifle. It has a nicely blued barrel and receiver with a real wood stock and forearm. What a pleasant change from the ugly black plastic truck axle semi auto that are so now in vogue.

I'm a function over form guy myself. :)

I remember shooting in a major international skeet event. I was using a K-80 a fairly attractive gun but I had the plainest grade. two other guys were shooting high end Perazzis with all sorts of engraving. another guy had a Beretta Sidelock SO-5 with cost more than my Saab 9000 Turbo. and the last guy was a former USSR team member shooting what had to be the ugliest gun on the field-a Baikal. to save money the hand piece on the barrels was two pieces of wood with a bolt between the two barrels holding it on. Guess which gun didn't have any mechanical issues over that 400 target event?

whats' funny is that you claim you like shooting certain kind of firearms but you appear unable to understand that other people enjoy shooting other kinds of firearms: firearms you are on record wanting to ban

Very astute of you. And your point is?

you pretend you like shooting but you want to deny others the same pleasure because you don't like the guns they choose, have you ever figured out that lots of gun banners would just as soon ban the guns you claim to own as the ones you say are not something people ought to be able to own

you are on record for punitive taxes on ammo to

seems to me you don't even understand what you are wanting

lets see

you want to ban the most popular centerfire rifles in the USA

you think honest gun owners cannot be trusted after 9 rounds in their guns

you want people to pay exorbitant taxes on ammo

you want people to have to wait to buy a gun

You want guns registered

you basically are a gun banner

You now pretty much have all that correct, except that I am not a "gun banner," whatever that means. That seems to be a term that you invented which is indicative of someone who has a junior high mentality. True, however, some firearms should be banned out of pure ugliness if nothing else. Even John Browning, that prolific gun inventor of the early 20th Century, when in around 1929, he invented the Superposed Over/Under shotgun, saw the dangers and the unnecessary function of his Auto-5 shotgun. He thought, even back then that it might be banned, so he was prepared to stay in the gun manufacturing business by inverting a new double. BTW, the Superposed was much prettier than the Auto-5.

BTW, I thought a "gun banner" was a cloth or vinyl sign that a store or gun shop would use to hang in their store to advertise a certain gun.

1) all of the laws you support in that poll are laws that only impact honest gun owners. That proves you have decided that banning or restricting honest gun owners

a) will actually decrease crime

b) and is more important than the rights of gun owners (if you even believe they have rights)

those are the two decisions a gun banner must make before supporting gun bans-and you have made them

2) You ALSO support banning certain semi auto firearms. that alone PROVES YOU ARE A GUN BANNER

3) I have never met a serious competitor in the shooting sports or an expert in self defense who really cared about how a firearm looks.

but you are on record as wanting to ban guns

you are on record for supporting laws that only harass those who can legally own guns

you are on board in demanding gun owners be subjected to inconveniences -or worse-that cannot legally be applied to criminals

so how can you HONESTLY claim you aren't a gun banner

and how can you honestly claim that crime control is what motivates your support for laws that ONLY impact people who can legally own guns

BTW what else should we call someone who is on record wanting to ban some guns?

other than a GUN BANNER?

Racist!

Are you serious? The first thing you agreed to him having pretty much all correct starts with "you want to ban"

How dense are you?

How dense are you?

lots of people who want to ban tons of firearms pretend they aren't gun banners because they have yet to publicly call for banning all firearms

its like a Klansman saying he is not a racist because he doesn't hate Swedish-Americans or Russian-Americans but -only African Americans, Hispanic Americans and Jewish Americans

Well if you threw a frog into boiling water...

OOH! I am "on record!" Wow, I'm scared. Most people on this section of the forum are pretty much the school yard bully type and get their kicks out of ganging up on one person, not listening to what they are really saying, taking what they say out of context, and are so blinded by their own prejudices and political leanings that they can never see things any other
way. Yes, I have been a serious competitor and I don't really care what a firearm looks like, other than those ugly black (ok, so some of them are grey or green) plastic semi autos. Turtle said he has never seen a serious competitor who felt as I do. Well, he has not seen me, but he has read what I have written so that will have to do. I am not alone in my thinking, as my life partner sees things the same way as do many others I shoot with. I used to see things the same way as you all did, then one day I came to my senses. I doubt if any of you will. As Hemingway said, "God rest ye merry gentlemen."

LOL!!

Now you sound like Hillary. You know...her "wipe her server" remark.

Well, to be fair, you both ARE very liberal.

I have no real need for guns today since I don't actively shoot, but I've collected a few over the years and have always loved classic looking pieces with wooden stocks, nice bluing, and checkering & engraving. I suppose I look at them as functioning retro objects of art, of sorts.

I always wanted a Winchester 1892, but never made a move on one.

Then again I also like '68 Camaros, '62 Strats, and '60's era Sportsters & Triumph Bonnevilles!

That's fine. There's a single shot .223 I love to target shoot with. I like black powder muskets too.

That's not what I reach for when things go bump in the night though. I reach for some ugly-ass firepower.

:D

Well if you threw a frog into boiling water...

what really slays me is gun banners come here-moue the tired anti gun nonsense of wanting to pass laws that anyone can see are facially designed to harass lawful gun owners and then pretend they aren't gun banners

well I was a finalist for an olympic team (final 6) shot in two world championships, won the National Junior title, and held a national record in another shooting sport. So I am pretty well known in the shooting community. and I have YET to meet anyone at say the Olympic trials, the USPSA nationals, or the local leagues who think its a great idea to make honest gun owners pay heavy taxes on ammunition-as you do-or have to have expensive insurance even though at least 80% of damages done with firearms are by people who aren't legal owners (and thus won't pay any insurance)

and since you want to ban guns used in less than 1% of the murders, its hard to see your position as being motivated by crime control but rather you appear hostile to the politics of those who oppose silly gun control laws

why do you think that almost 100% of the gun banners or restrictionists on this and other boards I have posted on-are "very liberal" "progressive" "socialist" or "democrat"

Good to know, too bad you did not include a picture of it. Guns come in all types, each has their own purposes and some see beauty where others do not. To each their own, you own what you want and I will do the same, thankfully the Bill of Rights provides for both of us to do so and will continue to.

What type of rifle is it?

Yeah, I wish he'd posted it. I went the site and can't find the issue cover picture.

But the Ruger is a beauty:

I haven't shot or hunted for sport for decades but I used to have a Jurras Howdah Contender and a Remington XP-100 pistol. 460 and 221 fireball respectively.

Not at ALL the kind of shooting TD does but some very, very nice pistols. The Remington WILL cure a mole problem with a high tree blind to rule out misses going where they shouldn't. Wish I hadn't sold the Contender!
