"Rifleshooter" Magazine

It was a TC Contender.

I haven't shot or hunted for sport for decades but I used to have a Jurras Howdah Contender and a Remington XP-100 pistol. 460 and 221 fireball respectively.

Not at ALL the kind of shooting TD does but some very, very nice pistols. The Remington WILL cure a mole problem with a high tree blind to rule out misses going where they shouldn't. Wish I hadn't sold the Contender!

The best hunting rifle I ever saw, was in 1972; it was a 375 H&H Magnum with a 3 inch recoil pad. The owner said it as an elephant gun.

I haven't hunted for sport for awhile either. But after spending money to put plants in the ground, I do hunt Crows, hogs, coyotes, coon and several other nuisance critters that tend to eat crops. Not to mention a couple of pickup loads of crop thieves. While that single shot is pretty, I'll take the "Ugly black gun" with a nice large clip.

"Best" is defined by what you are hunting. That size gun wouldn't work against smaller game, such as Deer. Unless of course you just want to kill it and don't mind losing a lot of the meat.

Yeah, no: it's an elephant gun. You could go squirel shooting with it, but that wouldn't work out too well

whats' funny is that you claim you like shooting certain kind of firearms but you appear unable to understand that other people enjoy shooting other kinds of firearms: firearms you are on record wanting to ban

It's the new form of gun control - you can only own pretty guns.

My home defense is a sig. Those single shots are decidedly not home defense.

I have no real need for guns today since I don't actively shoot, but I've collected a few over the years and have always loved classic looking pieces with wooden stocks, nice bluing, and checkering & engraving. I suppose I look at them as functioning retro objects of art, of sorts.

I always wanted a Winchester 1892, but never made a move on one.

Then again I also like '68 Camaros, '62 Strats, and '60's era Sportsters & Triumph Bonnevilles!

Picked up a Rossi carbine based on the Winchester 1892. Spent the money I saved on ammo and beer.

Ammo and beer long gone but the rifle still functions perfectly and I have never missed the Winchester script on the barrel.

Desert Eagle .44 Mag myself.

depending on the problem

Glock 19-with attached flashlight
CZ SP-01 ditto
FnH SP-1 police shotgun
S&W M4 Carbine with an EOTECH red dot and a military grade NVD

That's fine. There's a single shot .223 I love to target shoot with. I like black powder muskets too.

That's not what I reach for when things go bump in the night though. I reach for some ugly-ass firepower.

:D

Actually, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. ;)

Yeah, I wish he'd posted it. I went the site and can't find the issue cover picture.

But the Ruger is a beauty:

I've owned two Ruger #1 rifles, a 1B in .25-06, and a 1S in .45-70, both red pads. I've owned bolt guns, semi-auto rifles, lever actions, and those two Ruger single shots. Of all I enjoyed shooting and fondling the Ruger copy of the Farquharson rifle the most.

My second favorite was a gunsmith built .35 Whelen with a Mauser action. Ah, the good old days.

Unfortunately, guns to me have always been used as a quick way to pay bills when cash is needed.
