25,000 sign petition to allow guns at Republican National Convention

"A petition to allow the open carry of firearms at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland had more than 25,000 signatures Saturday evening.

Ohio is an open-carry state, but Quicken Loans Arena, where the convention is set to be held, bans all weapons on the property. Ohio's concealed carry law allows private entities from banning firearms on their property, according to the arena's policies. ....................."

Just what every political convention...............If the GOP does not relent....will the law abiding gun owners hold their breath in protest..........:lamo

Quite interesting isn't it.

If they allow anyone to bring in guns, concealed and open-carry, does that make the candidates and others there safer, or not?

Should be fun to see how it turns out.

Yes and Drumpf has such a remarkable calming affect on the masses... or is that massas?

Missed the best part:
As the National Rifle Association has made clear, ‘gun-free zones’ such as the Quicken Loans Arena are ‘the worst and most dangerous of all lies.’ The NRA, our leading defender of gun rights, has also correctly pointed out that ‘gun free zones… tell every insane killer in America… (the) safest place to inflict maximum mayhem with minimum risk.'”=
Petition To Allow Guns At Republican Convention Grows - Now Over 35,000

Are they really going to go down that route, that a professional sports arena is suuuper dangerous? Really? (so it's clear btw, that quote is from the makers of the petition and not the NRA). I get the point that it is kind of hypocritical to say gun-free zones are evil and targets and yadda yadda but then host your convention in one, though not like politicians have cared about that (*cough* Arizona with open carry everywhere but the legislature *cough*). Likely the GOP will use a caveat, saying that because there will be security there it's totally different and thus an okay gun-free zone.

why are people hostile to gun rights whining about this?

I don't mind...as long as that 25,000 signatures includes a majority of the delegates, honored speakers, and candidates.

It is a venue rented for a specific purpose and like any other similar situation the renters with temporary property rights have the final say-so.

I would think that the venue has sway over that. A gun show is one thing, but a political event is something else.

It's the gun mafia trying to make hay again.

.........and the folks who rented the venue says NO GUNS ALLOWED................and even the pro-gun groupie - TurtleDud - even supports the NO GUN policy

If so, it is a done deal. What's the problem with that?

Let's see. Gun control advocates would probably argue that it shows a lack of support for gun rights. A "put your money where your mouth is" meme.

On the other hand, there has been a lot of media hype and anti-Trump sentiment which has resulted in quite a number of incidents over the last few months.

Historically, the last time this much venom was spewed against a candidate it resulted in an assassination attempt (George Wallace). There is always some looney who wants to get famous by killing a "Hitler."

So if that happened at the convention, regardless of success or failure it would it result in both a disruption of the political process, and gun control advocates would try to use it to support their gun control agenda. Win-win from their perspective.

What gun control advocates seem to forget is that any property owner can refuse access to any visitor for any reason. I can say "no guns in my home or apartment." The gun owner can either agree and keep his gun in his car, or not come in. There is no violation of his right to keep and bear arms. He retains the choice.

Same for this type of venue.

IN general like the post...........if you dropped the flight into speculation and assumptions of how folks would respond

Sigh another unevidenced post. What flight? what speculation, what assumptions? Vague, irrelevant and useless comment

There is a difference and that is the public have been INVITED to attend and that means the PUBLIC's rights need to be respected. If the public have been invited and it is a condition of the INVITE that would be different. It would not be legal to disarm the public you invite warts and all.
