Interesting numbers...

Gun sales are going down again because no one believes that Obama is sending his jackbooted thugs to collect all of American's guns any more.

Or, perhaps better said, because the people who do believe that already stocked up.

Shows a lot of people not falling for the "wild, wild west" meme, taking responsibility for themselves and getting their CCWs.....

It doesn;t have anything to do with a change in perception about Obama. If anything.. folks are more worried after his announcements of taking executive action and his town hall.

The nics check is not really a good way to track gun sales.. since a nics check is not required to purchase a firearm.

and the NICS check doesn't indicate if you bought 1-2-3-4 guns at one time

It may not be the "jackbooted" thugs they're worried about as much as the ones down the road that tend to burn down neighborhoods and parts of whole cities. Just a thought.

The difference is that the guys down the street are real.

Uh, how can that be if checks are falling in number?

Checks are actually climbing in number. But as the article explained, a sizable portion are actually CCW applications.

I don't get the difference.

Everyone assumed the drastic increase in NICs checks were panic driven gun sales. While gun sales where actually up, they only represent a portion of the total. People applying for concealed carry permit requests accounted for the rest. Reported nics numbers do not seoerate the two.

most people who are applying for CCW licenses generally already own a gun (especially in states where you have to pass a shooting test to get the license). They do a background check at the sheriff's office for anyone applying for a CCW (at least in Ohio)

so an increase in the number of background checks apparently is as much a factor of people getting licenses to carry as it is people buying more firearms

I am glad that Jet57 "liked" this post.

but doesn't it just annoy the heck out of you that these anti gun people like to talk about "common sense gun laws".,. and firearms... when they have absolutely no idea what they are talking about or what the laws are actually on the books..and what they entail?

you'd think that once they realized that their assumptions were flawed.. that they would step back and reassess their position. But that never seems to happen.

anti gun types think common sense means voting for liberal democrats. to them, those of us who vote for gun rights are not sensible. Common sense gun control laws to the anti gunners means laws that will harass people like us.

Uninformed pro gun voters or those who don't care one way or the other think "common sense" means commons sense solutions to crime. Gun control is no such thing Rather its a common sense means to harass conservative voters and the NRA

Are you making the mistake of thinking gun control advocates desire to "control guns" is a rational reasoned response?

The very fact they cannot be satisfied is enough to tell that reason and rational thought have nothing too do with their demands and desires. The are indoctrinated and it is all about emotions such as fear and hatred. Its why guys like jet57 have no thought process they can draw on and can only utter one line canned responses. They never have a valid source or reference for such information other than gun control propaganda. Don't expect them to see that though. Others will immediately recognise the pattern of a gun control advocates "debate"
