Police: Suspected theater shooter brought gun to movie fearing mass shooting

A 29-year-old man suspected of shooting a woman inside a Renton theater Thursday night told detectives he brought the gun to the movie fearing a mass shooting.

The incident happened at The Landing in Renton during a showing of the film "13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi." It is the action-packed movie of the terrorist raid on the U.S. Embassy. About 15 minutes into the movie, a gun went off and a 40-year-old Michelle Mallari had been shot through the back of her chair……

…….the suspected shooter made his way out a nearby exit, tossing a gun clip into the trash…..
“Police say the man suspected of accidentally shooting a stranger at a Renton movie theater told them he carried a firearm because he feared mass shootings.

"shot her in the back of her chair"

He's only saying that to make a political statement that he could care less about. He intended to do that from the start. No one in fear of their life shoots a lady from the back of her chair and then tries to dispose of the magazine.

This wasn't a good guy. Nice try though.

ITs just another pathetic attack on gun rights using rare incidents here and there and dishonestly pretending this stuff is attributable to most gun owners.

Hard to say. Did he fire the gun, or did it go off accidentally? If he's got powder residue on his hands, that's pretty damning, but I'm not sure when they nabbed him or what have you.

The "Fear of mass shootings" is criminal trolling. Like I noted before, not even a paranoid person would randomly shoot a lady up from the back of her seat. Wouldn't a paranoid person shoot someone on his sides or someone who might have happened to be looking at him?

Nothing here adds up. Just a criminal trying to garner support for his political side. Of course, his ass will be serving life in prison and America will still be enlightened enough to stay pro-gun so, as with all this people...

He's an inferior subhuman moronic piece of ****.

If it was an accidental discharge, the guy acted pretty ****ing scummy with the magazine disposal and seemingly zero care for the damn lady he shot.

That's extremely true; however, even with an accidental discharge, people panic. It's what humans do.

Certainly not giving him a pass on it, though. At the very least, it's reckless endangerment.

plus obstruction of justice and several other charges I could probably think up as well as reckless endangerment etc

In other news, more than a million US citizens went to the movie theater this weekend while carrying a gun, and shot no one.

But by all means, let's focus on the one who did and not the 999,999 who didn't.

Modern firearms don't normally just "go off". The trigger may have been pulled accidentally or on purpose, but 99.9% it was pulled.

Idiots happen. Some idiots are reckless with guns; some idiots drive cars into crowds of people or run over pedestrians and drive off.

This idiot will probably get what's coming to him, like most do eventually.

I don't recall the NRA making that distinction when telling us all we need to solve the gun problem is to have a law abiding citizen...........a "good guy" with a gun..............Well this is the results of a former "law abiding" "good guy with a gun"

No politics here........just stating the facts .....

BTW

Stop trying to read my mind or guessing what my motives are in posting........

I have no problem with Second Amendment rights.....................I am just again strongly opposed to stupidity.............

And so? Is there a rational point to this? I guess that I can assume you want to ban guns in the US. Not a surprise.

Maybe if we made it illegal to be stupid. Is that your solution?

This is the type of dream world thinking common to adolescent little boys...........

I suspect your arguments are well based on such type of person. but I am telling the truth. the only one armed in that theater was a guy intent on committing premeditated capital murder. You seem to think that is a good environment to have

So what you are saying is: the shooting of an innocent victim can be justified by those 9999999 folks who went to the movie with their gun without incident……..
Let’s say only 1000 went to the movies with a gun and didn’t shoot anyone……………. would it then justify the woman who was shot?

Please tell us the number of folks with a gun at the movies that does not justify the shooting…………?

More fussy thinking promoted by the NRA to be repeated by the unsuspecting folks

it certainly would clutter the courts with lots of members of the Gun ban movement:mrgreen:

where do you get off claiming he is trying to justify the actions of an idiot? what he is doing is countering your pathetic attempt to smear honest gun owners and CCW holders based on the actions of isolated idiocy.

what was the purpose of you starting this thread?

1) to smear gun owners in general?

2) to whine about the NRA?

You are off subject.........speak to the jerk who had no training in how to use the gun...................What say you about that?

He's not here so I am "speaking" to the poster who is engaged in a pathetic attempt to smear gun owners based on the actions of someone who was at best extremely reckless and then felonious

The Democrats would lose voters.

In all fairness, so would those who pander to the bible thumping know nothing religious fascists, but the net effect would be to hurt the dems

Are the 40,000 who die in traffic accidents justified by the tens of millions who drive safely and kill no one?

My point being ONE incident does not make for an indictment of ALL persons of that set.

Any more than ONE black man robbing a store is sufficient to condemn ALL black men as thugs, just to illustrate the point.

Calm your self.......and lay off the hyperbole........

Please tell us why you seem to sound at the edges of the hysterical.........

I use this as an example of the fuzzy thinking and intended distortion by the NRA by using speculation of outrageous examples in opposition to any reasonable gun control measures............
