Obama’s gun control push undercut by fall in prosecutions
The administration has overseen a striking drop in prosecutions of gun crimes, winning only about 6,000 convictions in 2015 — down more than 15 percent from five years ago, and giving added weight to claims by gun rights groups that President Obama has failed to enforce the laws already on the books.

As a series of high-profile mass shootings has drawn attention to the issue, Mr. Obama has pushed for ever-stricter gun laws prohibiting sales of some firearms and paraphernalia, and more controls on whom they can be sold to.
But the push comes as his lawyers at the Justice Department are winning fewer cases using the laws already passed to ban criminals from buying or owning firearms, according to data compiled by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse at Syracuse University.
Erich Pratt, a spokesman for Gun Owners of America, said the drop in convictions makes sense because there has been an overall drop in murders — and he credited expanded gun rights for the good news.
“The fact is, armed citizens serve as a deterrent to crime,” he said. “The number of concealed-carry holders has tripled since the time Obama took office, even while the national murder rate has fallen 25 percent.”

Either the administration isn't enforcing the current laws effectively (that wouldn't be a surprise) or the massive increase of CCWs is working.

I think most intelligent people now understand that the Obama regime's push for "gun control" has nothing to do with actually impeding real criminals

I am going to parse this article a little. It is a good article but the proposals will have no effect as they are already in effect.

Obama set to unveil curbs on gun sellers - POLITICO

According to gun industry insiders and others familiar with the proposals, the changes include requiring an expanded number of small-scale gun sellers to be licensed — and therefore conduct background checks — whenever selling a weapon. This wouldn’t close the so-called gun show loophole, though it has the potential to narrow it.
Anyone with a clean record can already get an FFL. They can't make it any easier so this is bluster and garbage.
It’s unclear whether a lot more dealers would line up for licenses. But gun-control advocates say a better definition would make it much easier to prosecute sellers who should, but don’t.
This statement confirms what I stated in the sentence above.
The administration is also expected to impose tighter rules for reporting guns that get lost or stolen on their way to a buyer.
If a gun is stolen in shipping it is a already a federal law that the dealer is required to report it. The distributor has it on his records that the gun went to the dealer. The dealer has to account for that gun in his records. Also if the gun is stolen the shipper automatically calls BATF. They can't prosecute the dealer for losing something that he never had. They won't cover the insurance on the gun without doing that since they also have to account for the gun.

And the Icing on the cake. It is all about rhetoric rather than effect.
Gun-control activists acknowledged that changing the rules for licenses might have limited impact on what sellers actually do in the short term.
