blast the congress for not stepping up to the plate and passing gun control legislation and then turn around and commute the sentences of a bunch of criminals who were in jail on firearms possession charges? Am I missing something?

Pretty sure I'm missing something because I thought the commutations were for drug possession charges.

Even so, is one a "violent criminal" simply for being in illegal possession of a fire arm? Is it all that conservative to waste money and resources housing federal prisoners who aren't actually a threat to anyone?

It is all a game, lots of show on the part of all Parties, but we keep believing it is all real. Repubs will never approve of ay gun bans and many Libs would not support one either, the American People have at least learned that lesson, well most of them have.

yeah because Obama's motivation is to screw over conservative gun owners and the NRA and to NOT hurt violent criminals who tend to be his supporters anyway
 
I keep on hearing that we need to pass laws to keep the guns out of the hands of terrorists and criminals and then we turn around and commute sentences for some who had been in jail for firearms possession crimes. We sure wouldn't want them or terrorists to get guns but maybe we should concentrate more on doing background checks for people buying pressure cookers.

The sentences were commuted for drug offenders...

This only proves that it is valid to have concerns about the sincerity of Obama when it comes to gun control.

The vast majority of prisoners who benefited from the president’s powers of clemency were nonviolent drug offenders, but two cases stood out from the rest: Carolyn Yvonne Butler of Texas, convicted of three counts of armed bank robbery and using a firearm during a violent crime, and George Andre Axam of Georgia, convicted of possessing a firearm as a felon.

But wait!!!! It is illegal for those felons to have guns!!!!! The world is safe again.
I had to post that before some gun control advocate did.
