The cases of Gun Violence in the past 72 hours in the United States[W:64]

What's shocking?

That there are criminals that don't give a damn about gun laws. One of those "Master of the Obvious" threads.

300+ cases...................shocking

What is shocking is how badly the country's systems of education and socialization have run amuck. Of course, thinking that guns are the reason is part of the problem. We have been allowing simplistic thinking of that type drive policies and are now seeing the consequences of 5 decades of social engineering.

I have no idea of what you are saying.........

The beginning of wisdom is to call things by their proper name. Confucius
I agree with Confucius. We should make a concerted effort to call things by their proper name:

Instead of obscuring the issue with the dishonest term "gun violence"...we should use the proper name: "Criminal Violence." This way we don't lump armed self defense in with crimes committed with a firearm, and we can instead properly associate any criminal violence committed with a gun with all other intentional violence committed with a baseball bat, a knife, a chainsaw, steel pipe, lug wrench, brass knuckles, etc..

Instead of glamorizing a debilitating mental issue, we should not use the term "gun control activist." Instead we should use the clearer term "Gun Craven" or "Hoplophobe."

300+ cases...................shocking

Did you bother to look at the circumstances of these incidents?

I just looked at the first few and 3 of 5 were home invasions. One was an accidental discharge. One appears to be a drive by and one just says "two victims" with no additional information. With the exception of the AD they are all acts by CRIMINALS and PERPETRATED ON THE INNOCENT. If anything a list like this reinforces the reasons to own and carry a weapon for self defense.

300+ cases...................shocking

looked at 10 cases real quick

page 5 has a husband/wife homicide in texas

page 7 has a male 18+ homicide in Boston

page 9 i think has a shootout at a facility where two rangers were shot, one killed....and two other involved, man & woman....not enough info to be sure but i think they interceded in something for her

you know what all of this tells me though

we have too many criminals WALKING the streets

they start small, serve a little time, become more hardened, and get worse and worse.....

and eventually, they turn to major violence....

You are saying all gun violence is causes totally by criminals................REALLY....I doubt if Confucius would agree...................But more so.............I believe if you check the web site cited I believe you will find the definition of gun violence they used in gathering the data..........

But more so.....and on point................it is shocking IMHO of the number of gun violence event occurring over a 72 hour period in the USA...............

And that being so.................don't you feel a sense of duty.............responsibility to see if this violence can be lessened?

That is the way you see it......you have the right to protect yourself and family....................but what of the several hundred others?

An other one who thinks all gun violence is caused totally by criminals...................Don't you see a problem with believing that?

So, lets see 300 divided by 330,000,000 equals .000000909, move the decimal two places giving us .0000909 % of us population affected.

So the thousand of folks who suffer gun violence don't count...............Or should we think of them as hitting Lotto

How many would be victims if they defended themselves. And no, criminals killed do not count. That is one problem with the "gun violence" statistics. Hell, according to one site, Oklahoma had gun death rate of 14.4/100000, yet a homicide rate of only 4.5/100000 in 2014. Not all "gun violence" is bad. Not all killings with guns are bad.

Using numbers like you gave only encourages gun laws whose sole affect is to reduce peoples ability to defend themselves.

humans, as it turns out, are violent animals sometimes, nearly all of us, in fact..... that's a fact ya might want to get used to someday, because it hasn't changed since Humans first came into existence, nor will it change ...ever.

there will be no utopia where violence is a thing of the past.

so at the end of the day... i'm not shocked.. at all.

No more than I feel the need to reduce the numbers of date rapes or child abuse due to alcohol in others by reducing my personal consumption of Sam Adams. Do you feel responsible for date rape when you enjoy a beer? Happens way more often.....

How is an act of violence committed with a gun anything else BUT gun violence? Your attempt to separate the two is not reasonable or factual.

so do you believe all gun violence is bad?... or do you believe some gun violence is good and proper?

if you're like 99.9% of humanity in believing some gun violence is good and proper, then there's no reason to lump it together with the bad gun violence.

Someone getting injured or killed by a gun - is not bad?

man

"Violence is good and proper"...

No wonder the world dislikes us.

interesting worldview you have there..... most folks understand that acting in self defense is justifiable violence and it's considered "good"....

and here's where you explain why you believe defending yourself is bad.....in 3...2....1... go
