It turns out there was a conviction of a straw purchaser this week!! The chick that bought the gun her boyfriend used to off a cop in Omaha got hooked up!!!

Straw purchaser who bought gun used by Omaha cop killer gets probation

The woman who illegally purchased a gun for her boyfriend, who in turn used the gun to fatally shoot Omaha police officer Kerrie Orozco earlier this year has been sentenced to one year of probation, a federal judge ruled Monday.

To be fair, the judge also gave her 40 hours of community service and 180 days house arrest:censored

You want to fix the illegal gun problem? Try fixing the existing laws first!!

Buying a gun for a person that cannot pass a background check and then having that gun be used to kill a person (a cop in this instance) is nowhere near as bad as when law abiding citizens buy a gun from a family member in the same state, or when a law abiding citizen buys a gun at a gun show, or when ... you get the point.

We can't have a reasonable discussion with gun banners. Pointing out the ineptitude of their existing attempts at creating laws that limit the 2nd Amendment rights of law abiding citizens, as this story vividly demonstrates - they will say that this only makes their argument for more laws even more reasonable (idiotic illogical thinking and knee jerk overreactions are all that will result).

Well this all goes back to the mentality of lessening sentences for non-violent offenders. What about the gang related? Like conspiracy to commit an offense?

This is what happens when one gets caught up in gun control idiocy. We actually get to thinking the gun did it and not buying the gun would have changed the result. You'll supposed to think it would have made acquiring a gun impossible and far to difficult, so the faulty reasoning from gun control goes.

Maybe she deserved that just for being dumb.

There is no illegal gun problem. There is a criminal problem. Not enough are being arrested and convicted because stupid citizens want cops to chase guns instead of killers.

She was nominated by Obama. She is a Democrat.

There are several reasons she could have given the victim a break.
The judge doesn't really give a damn about reducing crime.
The judge doesn't like cops.
The judge is a social warrior.
The judge hasn't heard about the "real concern" of the left to reduce gun violence.
The judge just sucks.

Couldn't the straw purchaser be charged with manslaughter?

One would have to prove they knew or should have known would be my guess. ;)

Wouldn't the doctrine of per se negligence apply? If you commit a crime, that results in death, that is negligent homicide?

It is not illegal to purchase a firearm and give it to somebody else. We cannot argue what she knew because we don't know.

On the form it asks if you are the real purchaser of the firearm. Lying on that form is perjury.

true but buying a gun to gift to someone does not violate that part of question 11

Sigh which is exactly what I stated and still it was not understood. ;) I would imagine without a confession proving it was an arranged purchase might just be a little bit difficult.

What I cannot understand is this idiocy or trying to keep guns out of the "wrong hands" when nobody has a clue who has the wrong hands. They just assume EVERYONE. It's not like it does any good anyway. Apparently guns do not cause crime is not well understood. Fear does terrible things to people and turns them into monsters who will do anything. I'm more afraid of what they will do than anyone buying a gun.
