I found a CD in my music library - Yesongs - which is a double disc greatest hits type of deal. Anyway, I remembered I have a Rickenbacker 4003 Stereo Bass. Squire played a Rick. Does anyone know his setup? Did he use Rick strings and what gauges? Amps & preamps? Tube or transister? Speakers?
I intend to learn Wonderous Stories and Going For The One. WS sounds like a Rick but under high compression. GFTO has a very beefy bottom but also has the typical Squire sound on the D & G strings. Suggestions?
I love the Rickenbacker basses. I had a fretless Rick 4004, which I used about 3 times a night back in the 80's, alternating it during the night with a Washburn Force 8, that had a Koehler whammy bar on it, and a Fender J-bass, that I used a majority of the time. These were all 4 string basses. When I went to 5 string, I stuck with the Fender brand until until my last Fender bass got stolen, and now play a Schecter, which is my favorite bass of all time. It is the one that I am playing here:
