California Still Owes Feds 8 Billion Dollars for a Loan They Were Forced to Take Out To Cover the Cost Of Their Unemployment Benefits

California still owes feds $8 billion for unemployment insurance | The Sacramento Bee

Ive said this again and again but I guess one more time wont hurt

Liberals need to worry about and focus on fixing their own messes before criticizing some other State

California is so broke, such a fiscal basket case it had to borrow 8 Billion dollars from the Fed Govt to cover the cost of unemployment compensation

That money has yet to be paid back. The moral of the Story ? Never lend money to a Progressive

But they got in that mess by collecting the lowest possible UI tax from employers.

Hooray for lower taxes on business!!

Not at all ...

While the magnitude of the problem could not be more severe (California’s debt to the federal government represents over one-third of all the outstanding state loans), the specific causes of the crisis and the solutions are painfully clear. The simple fact is California pays especially modest unemployment benefits, while the state’s employers pay some of the lowest unemployment taxes in the state’s history .... the average UI taxes collected from California employers (calculated as a percent of total wages paid in the state) have fallen sharply in recent decades. During the last decade (from 2000-2009), California employers contributed just 0.70% of the total wages to the unemployment insurance trust fund, which is less than half of what they paid during the 1970s and far less than prior decades.

$15 Minimum Wage Sends California Businesses Fleeing | The Daily Caller

So Bussinesses are fleeing by the thousands and taking their jobs and capital with them. Why ?

Right, so CA continually lowers the UI taxes and nobody hears a peep because emnployers gets to spend less. But raise taxes on employers or require employers to pay a higher MW and look out! We're moving to Texas.

You should read the links Ive provided. Learn something new instead of expanding on assertions that fit Left wing narratives.

You would know exactly why Californian Bussinesses are leaving. You would know that thanks to foolish and draconian Left wing Policy initiatives its becoming increasingly more difficult for them to stay solvent and turn a profit.

As Krauthammer famosuly said. Most politcal arguments can be boiled down to: Liberal think conservatives are evil and conservatives think liberal are stupis.

Case on point . This nitwit CEO.

He even admits what an idiot he is:
"....The state of Missouri is also helping us with some tax incentives, but these are minor consideration"
Got that? he hates supply side but he's moving because of supply side .
DOPE.

Then he furthers his partisan idiocy...

"More importantly, there’s a motivation of conscience that factors into it, too. It’s not so much that I’m moving the company to Missouri as I’m moving it away from Kansas.

Please note – this is a personal blog post, reflecting my views on the performance of the Kansas government, and specifically Governor Brownback. It should not be interpreted as the views of the company, our investors or employees other than me.

In recent years, Kansas has become a battleground for conservative ideals. Traditionally, Kansas was a moderate state, with the governorship switching every other election between Democratic and Republican governors. But the election of hyper-conservative Sam Brownback as governor heralded a new age of far right wing ideology."

Investors tend not to like CEO's playing politics. This will not end well.

So the dumbass CEO moves out of Kansas for POLITICAL reasons and we are supposed to see this as an indictment of Economics?

Also, the CEO leaves Kansas because Missouri is PAYING HIM to move and this is supposed to be an indictment of Economics?

I swear, you have to drive around a lot of road blocks before you intentionally ditch your argument in that logic hole.

No , he's leaving because the State Gov't has a big deficit. Businesses really care about
that stuff. ( eye roll)

Another successful and growing company is saying goodbye yellow brick road to Kansas and taking it's business elsewhere thanks to the horrible economic policies of Sam Brownback and his right wing nut job puppet masters the Koch Brothers. Time to face reality for conservatives. If the states are supposed to be mini laboratories to experiment with different types of government then Kansas is a perfect experiment in what happens when the government gets out of the way and let's the free market do it's magic. In reality it turns otherwise decent states in to mini 2nd world nations.

Looks like their unemployment rate is 3.8%, ranking them 11th best in the nation. Unemployment Rates for States

Maybe you could concentrate on your inner cities a little more instead!

Trickle down economics are a long term. As in the good economy we had during the Clinton admin. was the result of the policies during the Reagan admin. But most liberals can only seem to think short term, so this kind of thing is utterly foreign to them....

Not so. Clinton's economy was caused by the internet bubble, not by governmental policies. Governmental policies have very little to do with the economy, contrary to popular belief.

Sensationalism aside, there are business models that can be more profitable with lower regulations and costs. Nobody debates this point.

However, those are not the only requites for doing business, which why California is a leader in business creation. I recommend this study as a means of bridging the gap between tabloidism and actual data analysis.

California is not deserving of its bad reputation. In 2013 California tied for 5th in state establishment entry rates, tied for 4th in job creation rates from new firm growth, and 4th in total net job creation. Far from being avoided as a place to do business, California ranks anywhere from above average to
one of the best in these main categories.

The secular decline in business dynamism that is occurring in California is also present in the national economy and in most other states. Economic researchers have yet to offer an explanation for the secular decline in establishment entries and exits, but it is a development that policymakers should follow closely because the creation and destruction of businesses in the economy is vital to sustained productivity and economic growth.

The importance of encouraging the creation of new establishments and firms in the economy cannot be stressed enough. The BDS data shows that over time, more than 100% of net job creation comes from establishments in their first or second year of existence (denoted by the Census Bureau as years 0 and 1). When we say more than 100% of net job creation that’s exactly what we mean. Many new businesses start up, but many fail, and the ones that fail destroy more jobs than the ones that survive create, so new establishments end up accounting for over 100% of net job creation. A similar narrative holds true for firms overall, though firms age 16 and older frequently show small net gains in job creation. This revelation, illustrated by the data, helps to quantify just how important
fostering new business creation is for job growth.

Texas has been applying supply side strategies successfully for decades.

You libs should be celebrating Texas's economic success, not ignoring it.

If it wasn't for Texas were would all desperate Californians find jobs ?

One company moves out of a state because another state offers him a better deal, and we have a crisis. I know a couple of companies that have done well just moving their business from one location from to another.

It should obvious that when a business changes locations it is often a zero gain in jobs. More often it gets the company huge benefits. New facilities, new training incentives for employees. The ability to get away from bad employees or bad union contracts. Often major tax breaks for years, to name a few.

Seems to me that Kansas is holding its own just fine and has improved in several categories under Brownback. Never the financial capital of the nation, Kansas enjoys a real unemployment rate of just over 3% which means full employment for Kansans who need and want to work. Yes, the progressives (including those in Kansas) hate Brownback and hold up Kansas as the nations "Mississippi" of conservative failure, but the statistics just don't bear that out. In the middle of one of the worst and longest recessions, Kansas has held firm in the middle of the pack and is in no danger of losing that place despite lowering taxes and spending.
