The action comes on the same day an appellate court in San Diego rules that federal law does not preempt California's medical pot law.

Federal agents raided a Culver City medical marijuana dispensary where they spent more than four hours this afternoon, serving a search warrant that resulted in no arrests but left the shop in disarray.
Drug Enforcement Administration agents arrived about noon at Organica Collective in the 13400 block of Washington Boulevard, said Sarah Pullen, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles office of the agency.

When a California medical marijuana dispensary, Organica Collective, was raided last Thursday by agents of the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency and local police, the Los Angeles Times ran a dramatic story on the incident, accompanied by a set of photographs showing the raid and its aftermath.
According to the Times, witnesses described the DEA agents as "removing computers, medicine and money, and using a steel cylinder battering ram to get into the upstairs bedrooms." When they left four hours later, all that remained was "trash, counters strewn with open and empty glass jars, piles of receipts thrown on the ground, upturned couch cushions, bits of marijuana on the edges of counters and an ATM with its doors torn open and emptied. ... An outdoor vegetable garden had plants uprooted, along with marijuana plants removed by the agents." |
I don't think privitized militairy should be allowed on citizens. Only on enemy war combatants. Our founding fathers knew the dangers of this when escaping the clutches of tyranny.

While I think the DEA agents should have been much less destructive, I don't blame them for doing the raid. They're just doing their job, enforcing laws that shouldn't exist in the first place. The politicians (and hence the People) are responsible for this stupidity.
Exactly what kind of ego does a politician have to have in order to believe that they know better than doctors when it comes to prescribing medication to their patients?
I agree with you on the mercenary thing too, that is unacceptable especially on citizens. If they can't afford to use trained DEA agents, then maybe they shouldn't waste their resources on things like raiding state-sanctioned medical facilities.

This type of federal thuggary is unacceptable.

The issue isn't whether marijuana is "right" or "wrong." It's about our government using mercenaries on our civilian population.
Unfortunately, I don't think the blitz we need is going to happen. Hopefully I'll be wrong.

Blackwater Worldwide, the contractor whose provision of private security in Iraq has been under scrutiny, and its affiliated companies may have improperly obtained more than $100 million in contracts meant for small businesses, according to federal auditors
| .... Just now finding out about this? Common we all knew it was going on.. With these crazy relief checks Bush is feeding us he also gave "small security companies" an undisclosed amount.
Did noone else think (holy **** something is wrong here) when he listed excatly how much money he was giving to where but the only amount not listed was "small security companies"? |

This type of federal thuggary is unacceptable. | You couldn't be more right: Federal Court Rules U.S. Government May Not Deliberately Subvert California’s Medical Marijuana Laws Quote:
In a first-of-its-kind ruling, a federal court today held that the U.S. Constitution bars deliberate subversion by the federal government of state medical marijuana laws.
"Utilizing selective arrests and prosecutions, the federal government has sought to sabotage California’s reasoned approach to medical marijuana use," said Graham Boyd, Director of the ACLU Drug Law Reform Project. "For the first time, a court has recognized that a calculated plan by the federal government to undercut state medical marijuana laws is patently unconstitutional. Today’s decision forecasts an end to any organized federal effort to sabotage state medical marijuana laws."
The ACLU and others argued, and the court agreed, that the U.S. Constitution permits states to determine for themselves what is legal and what is illegal under state law, and that the federal government may not deliberately undermine this process.
In today’s ruling, which rejected the federal government’s motion to dismiss the case, Judge Jeremy Fogel of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, San Jose Division, relied on U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit Chief Judge Alex Kozinski’s opinion in Conant v. Walters, which stated, in part, "Applied to our situation, this means that, much as the federal government may prefer that California keep medical marijuana illegal, it cannot force the state to do so."
In addition to U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey, the lawsuit names as defendants U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agents involved in the raid of WAMM, and administrators of the DEA and Office of National Drug Control Policy.

Here's a link to the ruling
But I am curious how this could completely disagree with Gonzales V Raich. |
