Any truth to this e-mail I recieved?

I got this e-mail and it looks rather scary to me, but in the back of my mind have felt some of this coming for some time. I'd like others with a better understanding of the political arena to weigh in on this please..............

Subject: 6th closed door session of Congress in 176 years

Last week's session (Th 3/13/08) was only the 6th time in the last 176 years that Congress has closed its doors to the public.

Word has begun leaking that not only did members discuss new surveillance provisions as was the publicly stated reason for the closed door session, they also discussed:

the imminent collapse of the U.S. economy to occur by September 2008;
the imminent collapse of US federal government finances by February 2009;
the possibility of Civil War inside the USA as a result of the collapse;
advance round-ups of "insurgent U.S. citizens" likely to move against the government;
the detention of those rounded-up at "REX 84" camps constructed throughout the USA (see Rex 84); - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
the possibility of retaliation against members of Congress for the collapses;
the location of "safe facilities" for members of Congress and their families to reside during expected massive civil unrest;
the necessary and unavoidable merger of the United States with Canada (for its natural resources) and with Mexico (for its cheap labor pool);
the issuance of a new currency - THE AMERO - for all three nations as the proposed solution to the coming economic armageddon.

Members of Congress were forbidden to reveal what was discussed.

28) President claims right to make war whenever he wants.
29) Words misused to mean their opposite: i.e. peace for war, democracy for fascism.
30) The president sets himself up as the sole moral authority for the entire country, using his personal beliefs as the basis on which to declare what is 'good' and what is 'evil.'

Re: Any truth to this e-mail I recieved?

The short answer to your question is no.

The long answer? No way, Jose.

U.S. soldiers and police will not turn on the population, and the 'collapse' of our economy was based around faulty loans, rather than any huge material losses. The government has more... everything in storage, and if things get really bad, the newspapers will begin running stories about a sudden (false) upturn in the economy- nothing helps achieve prosperity like optimism. We're a long way from any Great Depression.

By the way, if anything like this ever were to happen, many Congresspeople would begin shouting the news from the rooftops (Paul, Lieberman, etc.).

Re: Any truth to this e-mail I recieved?

There is some truth to it I'm sure. You'll have to use your best judgment as to which bits are true. I'll say that the more vague the statement, the more true it is. The more specific, the less true.

Re: Any truth to this e-mail I recieved?

2) Massive warrantless searches.
- Would love to know their definition of "massive", as well as "warrentless" as even most of the searches that certain groups are trying to classify as "warrentless" actually aren't, its just that the warrent can be obtained after the fact OR in certain circumstances you don't have to be notified till after its executed.

3) The president and other officials regularly lie to you.
- My god we've been ready for a police state for 200+ years

4) Fraudulent election counts.
- AKA Republicans Won

5) Government monitoring of letters, emails, phone calls and checking accounts.
- Was being done long before Bush

6) Secret courts.
- What secret courts? FISA that's been there since the 60's?

7) A government subservient to the interests of the country's largest corporations.
- Debatable. And even then, that's been debatable since the earliest of times.

8) Use of torture on prisoners.
- Which was also done at other times. My god we were ready for a police stat in WWII!

9) Courts that support presidential use of unconstitutional powers.
- Courts, finding something constitutional that isn't explicitely stated in the constitution or isn't agreed upon by the other side? That never happens....

10) Massive spying on citizens, especially those involved in political dissent.
- Once again, please define "Massive". Also exactly spying or political dissent they're speaking of. Oh, and also going on before Bush.

11) A government that uses words like democracy, freedom and peace while engaging in acts dramatically at odds with such words.
- Once again, this could be said for many many many presidents.

12) Government agencies or officials declaring themselves exempt from portions of the law or constitution.
- Presidential authority has been asserted a large number of times. Guess we've een ready for a facist state for ages.

13) Creation of watch lists, no-fly lists and similar exclusionary documents.
- Watch lists were had before in certain ways.

14) National ID cards.
- Which hasn't happened and there is one to a point...SSN anyone?

15) Growing number of citizens incarcerated for a growing number of offenses.
- O.o Our population has steadily increased and so has the amount in prison. That's, not unusual

16) Massive use of cameras to spy on citizens.
- What? Traffic Cams?

17) A media supportive of, or obsequious towards, the government in covering its police state activities.
- hahaha

18) Security bubble around government leaders' public appearances including pre selected audiences and limit on proximity of protests.
- Which is nothing new.

19) Disarming of citizenry.
- Yep, like taking away assu-....waiiiit.

20) Dissent characterized as disloyal by government and its supporting media.
- Which, despite what people try to say, has been a long used political tactic by both sides in different ways for years.

21) Increasing government control over private behavior.
- Which, once again, has been pushed by both sides for years unfortunantly.

22) Lack of legal recourse to stop illegal government actions.
- How so?

24) It is difficult to borrow books from libraries pertaining to controversial subjects such as fascism.
- Its "difficult"? How so? Besides that potentially your records could be requested if they wished. oooooo

25) Transfer of powers from legislatures to executive.
- What powers have gone from the legislature to the executive besides war powers that happened decades ago.

26) Assassinations of popular public figures.
- ?

27) Expansion of prisons and laws that lead people to prisons.
- laughable in regards to the first. The second is a general thing of most organized governments as new things pop up.

28) President claims right to make war whenever he wants.
- What? What war did he just claim he wanted and did?

29) Words misused to mean their opposite: i.e. peace for war, democracy for fascism.
- AKA we disagree with you so you must be meaning what we think

30) The president sets himself up as the sole moral authority for the entire country, using his personal beliefs as the basis on which to declare what is 'good' and what is 'evil.'
- Something often done by presidents in the past

31) Federal takeover of functions formerly considered essential state or local responsibilities such as state militias and public education.
- What state militias have been taken over? Agree with public education but not for hte reason this email is thinking

32) Creation of a mercenary military force used for foreign and domestic purposes.

- What "militia forces" does this person think the government created.

Wow, this entire thing is laughable. I'm amazed its not just in conspiracy theories.

Re: Any truth to this e-mail I recieved?

The only reason why I might think there is something to the first
part is:

We owe >$9Trillion in debt! Americans have ~$50Trillion of debt.
How much Gold do we have to back up that debt?
I think our entire financial system is based on wish full thinking and not
any stable rationale.
As it stands now, the rest of the world is doing ok while we are going in to a
recession, and I think that is very bad for us.

Also the REPS&DEMS have NO PLANS of stopping the insane debt spending that
is currently going on. And one has to ask the question: "When will America
go bankrupt?"

The Oil Co.'s have enough money to start their own country while the
average American is having trouble buying food, gas, and paying their bill !

Thanks for the replies & input, specially to Zyphlin for breakin it down some. I kinda figured this should be taken with a grain of salt but I try to get a feel of the overall condition of our society. And I do feel that there is a tremendous lack of real responsibility on much of our government & court systems.
But the real problem I see being an issue is that many children aren't being raised by very well skilled parents in even the simplest social skills. It's breeding a larger nation of idiots, who in turn will only replicate the same in larger numbers.

The overall condition of American society is good. Americans, in general, have never been able to be subjected to any tyrant's yoke, and that will remain the same. We are different than anyone else in the world. I strongly feel that the Bush administration is the latest in a long line of attempts to put us under the heel of government, and was the most successful attempt since FDR. Still, it did not come to fruition.

In the future, the best way out of the mess we are now in is:

1) Ensure the death of Neoconservatism in the Republican party.

2) Once this is accomplished, hopefully this year, then support the "restored" Republican party, and resist the Democrats, which will only bring us more of the same we have been getting for the last 8 years.

3) Begin treating the Constitution in the same way a true Christian treats the 10 commandments.

4) Begin paying down our massive Federal debt, and ensure that never again do Federal expenditures exceed Federal income.

5) Get rid of the Patriot Act.

6) Bring our troops home. If we are attacked again, we can always carpet bomb into oblivion whichever nation supported those efforts. We already have that capability. Let that carpet bombing, and its resultant destruction, be a lesson to those who believe they can harm America. For every American killed in a terrorist attack, kill ten thousand in the nation which supported the attack. We don't need troops over there, not if our enemies, and their enablers, know that they will suffer a literal hell on earth should they attack us.

7) Finally, be vigilant against any form of Socialism, which is destructive to American values.

This is a good start.
